No, we're not looking at a version of 'The Sound of Music', rather a fun way to develop communication with your little ones. *** SOMETHING SPECIAL *** Some of you may recall seeing this on TV. It is a programme by the BBC that is broadcast on the CBeebies channel as well as CBeebies on the terrestrial channels. On the CBeebies channel you can often catch it again in the day if you miss it as it tends to be repeated 3 times during the day (not that we watch TV all day!). The programme is based for 3-5 year olds, however my 2 year old son loves it and responds enthusiastically whenever it's on and has certainly learnt some signs that he uses throughout the day. So begins this fantastic DVD to help hearing babies with very early communication skills. It's great fun and is not like any other action songs DVD. What is Sing and Sign? The 'Sing and Sign' concept was invented by a lady called Sasha Felix, in Brighton, in 2001. She uses traditional nursery rhymes and her own creations, along with hand signs based on British Sign Language and is compatible with Makaton and Signalong. ...As my son, Michael, has severe speech difficulties, we are constantly looking for new ways to encourage him to communicate and one of the things that was recommended by the nursery nurses at his development group was the Makaton Nursery Rhyme Video featuring Dave Benson Phillips, who just happens to be one of my sons favourite TV presenters. So we hurried along to our local WHSmith and ordered it (not actually having the internet at the time), and only time would tell whether our son would gain anything from it. ~~~What is Makaton?~~~ Makaton is a form of sign language which is often used by people with learning difficulties (such as my son has).
