THe best one yet is what the Jonathan Ross TV show calls it and I have to agree, Shrek the Third was definitely my favourite film of all three, hilarious from start to end and a great film for all the family.
Don't get me wrong, I like the other two as well. Shrek is just a great cartoon that I think works really well because both kids and adults can find the jokes funny and appreciate the humour. They seem to have the same formula as the Simpsons, which appeals to all ages as well very cleverly. I think Shrek has also been such a success because it uses the fairytale angle with a lot of its characters and this is something that everyone still wants to believe in, fairytales and make believe, good over evil and happily ever after.
If you're not familiar with Shrek he is a giant green ogre who lives in a land called Far Far Away. In previous films you see him meet and marry his princess, Fiona and so far they are living happily ever after. Changes will occur to their everyday life that in the beginning Shrek is not completely ready for. Will he find his courage to look after Fiona and his new responsibilities? Shrek is voiced by Mike Myers (Austin Powers) and he does a really good job of putting on a very ogre like voice and making the character very real but very loveable at the same time. Fiona is voiced by Cameron Diaz and she does well too, living up to a beautiful princess stereotype, albeit that she is now a green ogre too!
The main plot of this movie sees Shrek and his friends embark on another hilarious journey. This sort of follows the same storylines as the other movies in that Shrek is on another madcap adventure and is seems that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Shrek's father in law dies and Shrek sets of to find the rightful heir to the throne of Far Far Away. Joining him on this task are the every present and faithful Donkey and Puss In Boots. If you love cats then Puss In Boots is definitely the character for you. At certain times he makes these cute cute pussy eyes that just make you want to squeeze him and not let him go because he is just so cute. Puss is played by Antonio Banderas and he almost plays a similar role to that of Zorro with a sword and his boots. He makes the cat very funny. Donkey is played by Eddie Murphy who is just mad and wild and the perfect person to play this role in my opinion. His donkey laugh is just infectious and makes everyone laugh.
The support characters in this movie are great and really bring the whole fairytale story to life. There are characters such as The Three Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man, The Big Bad Wolf, Cinderella and Snow White to name but a few. They are all just how you would imagine them to be brought to life and I think the film really does them justice.
The DVD is rated U so it is suitable for all to see. I would recommend this to any kids as it is really harmless, innocent fun and a great family movie. The film runs for approximately 89 minutes and the special features are a really good selling point of this DVD too. They include lots of fun things for kids to do such as Tournament Games, Merlin's Magic crystal Ball as well as the usual lost scenes, and technology of Shrek information.
