I am a massive fan of Shrek and when I heard they were making a third film, I could not believe it! It was a very long wait, and when the time finally came, I jumped at the first chance I could to see it...!
***** Shrek was released in 2002, introducing the nation to the big, green not-so-scary ogre. Along with his 'friend' Donkey, Shre has to journey to rescue a beautiful princess, Fiona from a dragon and return him to Lord Farquad in order to save the fairytale people and get them out of his swamp. On the trekk back from the castle with Fiona, Shrek and Donkey discover something spectacular: Fiona turned into an ogre by night because of a spell cast on her by an evil witch long ago. Before they get back, Shrek and Fiona fall in love but Lord Farquad spoils the magical moment when he demands Fiona's hand in marriage. So Fiona and Farquad prepares the wedding, but Shrek, Donkey and Donkey's new love, the Dragon, do all they can to stop in. In the end, they save the day and Fiona gets the kiss from her one true love, Shrek. But the spell is not broken, she turns into an ogre. Permanent. But by now, she does not care. It all ends happily ever after!
Shrek 2 was released as a sequal in 2004. It starts with Shrek and Fiona just returning from their honeymoon as newlyweds.
Shrek is to meet Fiona's royal parents in Far Far Away and he is unsure that they will accept him. It turns out Queen Lilian accepts Shrek for who he is, but King Harold is not too sure. The Fairygodmother visits Shrek and Fiona and Harold in turn, and says she will make everything ok. But this Godmother's son is in fact Prince Charming, who was supposed to be marrying Fiona. So she tells Harold that he should have Shrek killed! Shrek and Donkey meet Puss In Boots and he joins them on the adventure to sort everything else. They find themselves in a spot of bother, but all the othjer Fairytale Creatures soon lend a helping hand! After a long 'battle', everything is back to normal and they can go on living life as a family!
***** Shrek 3 is a fantastic way to carry on the story. Fiona's dad is ill so he has asked Shrek and Fiona to take over the crown, just until he is better. But sadly, the King passes away and he wanted Shrek to be the next heir. Shrek was not happy with this, so he goes in search for the King's cousin, Arthur (Arty) alongside Donkey and Puss, leaving his pregnant wife back at FarFarAway with the fairytale princesses. When they finally find Arty, it takes a bit of time for him to be persuaded to go to FarFarAway. They need a way to get back quick, so they go to the 'sorcerer', Merlin. He magics the four of them back, but the spell backfires, as Puss and Donkey end up swapping bodies! They still have a little way to walk, and in the meantime, Prince Charming and the Fairytale Villians have taken over Far Far Away, with Charming as King. Fiona and the princesses are walking in the secretunderground passage, escaped from Charming, unaware of what exactly is going on. Charming captures Shrek, and plans to kill him, and now it is up to the fairytale creatures to save the day. But can they do it...?
***** Shrek the Third was superbly directed my Chris Miller, with co-director Raman Hui. It is produced by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Aron Warner. A fantastic production! The scripts for Shrek the third were written by the marvelous Jeffrey Price, Peter S. Seaman, Jon Zack, J. David Stem, David N. Weiss, and William Steig.
Shrek may be in cartoon form, but there are some fantastic voices behind the characters: Shrek - Mike Myers Donkey - Eddie Murphy Fiona - Cameron Diaz Puss - Antonio Banderas Lillian - Julie Andrews Harold - John Cleese Charming - Rupert Everett Arty - Justin Timberlake It cannot be easy to act out such detailed parts with just a mic and a set of headphones!
***** THE MUSIC I did not recognise any of the songs in the film, but each track fitted in superbly with the mood of the given scene.
~*~MY OPINIONS~*~ As I have already said, I am a huge fan of the Shrek films! I love the way all the fairytale characters are brought together into the one film, and they interlock perfectly! The character of Shrek is quite a mysterious one. In many ways he does seem a bit scary, and has a bit of a fear-factor. There is a great message to be learnt there - Do Not Judge A Book By Its Cover. In other words, something that may seem like a negative, could turn out to be a posotive (and vice versa of course!) The way Shrek's emotions and feelings are expressed totally changes your opinion on him. You feel sorry for him. I feel as if I could connect with him so easily. Now, if I had to choose a favourite character, I couldn't. Not really. Donkey is one of my favourites though. I think Eddie Murphy is so funny, his comedy is almost unreal! And he really brings out the comic side in Donkey, which I believe nobody else could do in such a way. Donkey is cute in a way too (though he IS a cartoon!) Puss In Boots really hits my heart. When he takes his hat off and looks at the camera with his large, round sorrowful weeping eyes, it melts your heart. I want to rip my heart out and give it to him. You forget how mischevious he really is! I think this is so amazing! Haha. Shrek 3 is jammed full of comedy at appropriate moments. Three of my favourite parts include: 1) When the Gingerbread Man 'poops out' a gum drop button (you'll get it when you see it!) 2) During the 'fight', when the pigs flip over and scream SAUSAGE ROLL! 3) When Merlin manages to change back Puss and Donkey, but the tails are swapped! Wow Im laughing just now. To myself. Luckily for me, nobody is around! So I do not appear to be total bonkers!
***** Like a lot of traditional cartoons (ie the simpsons, winnie the pooh), they are being turned into 3-dimentional characters. hopefully, Shrek will never turn into this as I think it would give the whole feel of the show a bad feel about it. The comedy would be drained. Instantly.
***** well, if you have yet to watch Shrek 3, or even the first or second for that matter, do not waste any more time! I recommend you see it before the Fairytale Villians take over...!

Sounds like you really enjoyed it. I liked the first, but found the second to be a little disappointing, but I'm sure I will get round to seeing this eventually.
