2. The newlywed Shrek and Princess Fiona are invited to Fiona's former kingdom, Far Far Away, to have the marriage blessed by Fiona's parents--which Shrek thinks is a bad, bad idea, and he's proved right: the parents are horrified by their daughter's transformation into an ogress, a fairy godmother wants her son Prince Charming to win Fiona, and a feline assassin is hired to get Shrek out of the way. The computer animation is more detailed than ever, but it's the acting that make the comedy work--in addition to the return of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, Shrek 2 features the flexible voices of Julie Andrews, John Cleese and Antonio Banderas, plus Jennifer Saunders as the gleefully wicked fairy godmother. --Bret Fetzer

Advantages: Amazingly brilliantly funny Disadvantages: Children want to watch it over and over
The whole Shrek think crept up on me . I didn't see the first one in the cinema and when my hubby suggested getting the DVD i thought he was mad. Surely it was a kids film! But when we watched it i loved it. We went to see the second one in the cinema and took our Daughter along. She was hooked too and after that there was no stopping us. We had been meaning to buy the DVD for ages but it took a weekend when we were all ill for us to get around to ... ...*** SHREK ***
Shrek is an Ogre, but a rather cute one at that. He lives in a swamp in an enchanted forest and is happy. Then Lord Farquaad sends all the other magical creatures to live there too as he wants to rid his perfect kingdom of anything less than perfect.
But the thing that would make his life perfect was to be a real King, and the only way to do this is by marrying a Princess. He chooses Princess Fiona who is locked in the highest tower ...

Advantages: Very funny, original and great voice overs! Disadvantages: Some toilet humour and innuendos not suitable for younger children
...very good really but the Shrek Karaoke party is very very funny. We were rolling on the floor with laughter. Also the alternative interactive endings are good fun too. It kept us all entertained for quite a while. You are presented with several options and according to your choice an alternative end to the Shrek 2 is shown.
Also watch out for the character interviews. Short but well worth you watching it. One oddity, the second DVD has only English ... ...is now happily married to Shrek and they are invited to a celerbation in "Happy Ever After" where their parents are King and Queen. Antonio Banderas does a fine voice over for Puss-In-Boots who is an Ogre Killer, or is he is really just a cuddly cat? Shrek must fight against the Fairy Godmother and her son Prince charming who are aiming to split Shrek and Fiona up and so take the Kingdom over.
I don´t particularly like the innuendos as it is a U ...

I went to see Shrek 2 by mistake, but ended up loving it so much that I had to get the DVD of both Shrek and Shrek 2. I love Michael Myers in both, but my favorite part has to be Julie Andrews and John Cleese as king and queen of Far, Far Away. I particularly loved the journey to Far, Far Away in the second film with Donkey, played voice-wise by Eddie Murphy, asking the oft-repeated question, "Are we there yet?"
Both films are great fun, with pieces for adults and children, following the tradition of early Hollywood cartoons that were shown at the theater. As Shrek 3 is about to start, I just wanted to give a little plug for these earlier films, too.

At first I thought shrek was for younger kids, not older teenagers like myself but when I saw this box set in HMV's sale for £15 I thought I'd better get it as so many people had told me how good shrek was so I thought why not give them both a bash. I decided I'd watch them both with my sister and we sat down to watch the first one. It's all about an Ogre, shrek (voiced by mike myers) who can't get enough of privacy and being on his own, he lives ... ...from a dragon kept tower. Shrek offers to do this in exchange for all the fairytale creatures to be allowed back in the kingdom therefore he gets his privacy back, so he and his wiseguy sidekick donkey(voiced by eddie murphy) trek off to save the fair princess. Of course shrek ends up saving her and as a result gives her her first kiss, they fall in love and so on but there is a nice little twist complementary of don't judge a book by it's character ...
