big green goofball havent quite been up to scratch. In fact theyve been completely rubbish.Shrek 2, based directly on the new movie, is a step back in the right direction. At its core the game is a sort of scrolling beat-'em-up, interspersed with numerous little puzzles to overcome as you try to navigate the various fairytale realms. What makes things a lot more interesting is that you actually manage a team of four characters at a time, taking control of one at a time and having the other three follow along behind. The defaults include Shrek, Fiona and Donkey, but you also get to use Gingerbread Man, Lil' Red, Puss in Boots and The Big Bad Wolf. The best bit is that if you can get three friends to help, then one person can actually control a character each, which really livens things up. But even in single player mode any of the characters can get a chance to take part in a "Hero Time" mini-game that provides a enjoyable respite from the main game as you take a ride on a dragon with Donkey or indulge in a singalong with Fiona.Although the graphics are impressive (much more so than the sound, which doesnt feature the original movie cast), the main gameplay can get a bit monotonous. But forShrekfans and general young 'uns theres more to enjoy here than with most film licenses. --David Jenkins

We went to see the second one in the cinema and took our Daughter along. She was hooked too and after that there was no stopping us. We had been meaning to buy the DVD for ages but it took a weekend when we were all ill for us to get around to it. My Daughter was not at all good and there was nothing on TV, so my hubby, who was the least ill at this point, went to Tesco to look for something to watch and came back with this box set.
Over the next 48 hours we must have watched both films half a dozen times each and i can honestly say that it did not get boring. It is that good. There is something that you catch each time that you didn't the time before.
So i'll start with a review of each film
*** SHREK ***
Shrek is an Ogre, but a rather cute one at that. He lives in a swamp in an enchanted forest and is happy. Then Lord Farquaad sends all the other magical creatures to live there too as he wants to rid his perfect kingdom of anything less than perfect.
But the thing that would make his life perfect was to be a real King, and the only way to do this is by marrying a Princess. He chooses Princess Fiona who is locked in the highest tower of a castle. Her true love must kill the dragon guarding her and then she will be free.
Of course Lord Farquaad isn't going to go himself and sends Shrek and Donkey to get her promising that he will give him the deeds of his Swamp if he returns with Princess Fiona. I can't tell you much more as it will totally spoil the story.
Mike Myers is the voice of Shrek and is totally hilarious. Eddie Murphy is the voice of Donkey who really makes the perfect partner to Shrek. Cameron Diaz is the voice of Princess Fiona and is sassy and funny.
The animation is wonderful, the story is funny and yet heartwarming and there is something for the whole family. Some of it just goes totally over the head of the kids and yet there is loads in there for them too.*** SHREK 2 ***
I don't want to say too much about this because then i'll give the end of the first film away. So we join Shrek on his honeymoon and oh my he is a happy ogre until he goes off to see his in laws who as anticipated are not very happy to see him and not very welcoming!
His Father in law tries to have him killed by Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderis) who is much better than i expected to be honest! We are introduced to the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders) and her son, Prince Charming(Rupert Everett).
I really don't want to say anymore for fear of spoiling it for anyone who hasn't see it. (There might be someone out there)
*** The Extras ***
This Double Disc DVD has loads of extras
Disc 1 -
You get loads of stuff on this so i am going to give a general run down and focus on the fun stuff
Film makers commentary - you get the directors and the producers talking through the film telling you why they did something a particular way. My hubby loves this kind of thing on any film.
DVD-ROM for the computer
The Tech of Shrek - telling all about the techno bit of the film
Animation interviews 'Meet the Press' - This is hillarious. It is where the characters pretend to do the who press thing for the release of the film. Teehee
Production Notes
International dubbing feature - telling about the making into different lauguages, italian, mexican, spanish, french, german, Brazilian
Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke Party - this is hilarious, i'm not going to tell you anymore, get it and watch and laugh
Games - There are four games in total including Decorate the Gingerbread man and you will have fun playing them, my little one loves them
Cast - gives details of all the main cast members and details all about them
Film makers - same as about but about the film makers
Disc 2
Far Far Away Idol - like pop idol and even has Simon Cowell as a judge, it is really funny
The Tech of Shrek 2 - pretty much as before
Meet the Cast - again as before
Meet Puss In Boots - Antonio Banderas is the one of the new characters in the film and it is about him and his contribution
The Music of Shrek 2 - Music plays a massive part in Shrek 2 and this is about how it was chosen and the original songs like 'Accidentally in love'.
Technical Goofs - The outtakes
Previews
Film makers commentary - as before
Far far away news - The local paper and its headlines
There is all sort of technical stuff about the format of the film and this is all on the box so i don't feel that it needs to be listed.
*** My Opinion ***
I love these film and my family love them too. The thing about the box set is that it is compact on the shelf and if your dvd collection is growing as fast as ours this is a great advantage.
The amount of extras that you get is just amazing. There are fun stuff for the kids(and the big kids) and then there is all the techy stuff to explain how they did it. You could spend all day just looking at this not even watching the film if this is your thing.
We bought this for about £20 in Tesco but i have seen it all over the place for everything from £16.99 on special to £32.99! So as always it pays to shop around.
I am not the type of parent to let my Daughter watch anything, this is every parents own choice but we enjoy sitting down as a family to watch things together. And I feel that you get a lot for your money. If you haven't bought either film yet then treat the family and go for this.
Advantages: Very funny, original and great voice overs! Disadvantages: Some toilet humour and innuendos not suitable for younger children
...very good really but the Shrek Karaoke party is very very funny. We were rolling on the floor with laughter. Also the alternative interactive endings are good fun too. It kept us all entertained for quite a while. You are presented with several options and according to your choice an alternative end to the Shrek 2 is shown.
Also watch out for the character interviews. Short but well worth you watching it. One oddity, the second DVD has only English ... ...is now happily married to Shrek and they are invited to a celerbation in "Happy Ever After" where their parents are King and Queen. Antonio Banderas does a fine voice over for Puss-In-Boots who is an Ogre Killer, or is he is really just a cuddly cat? Shrek must fight against the Fairy Godmother and her son Prince charming who are aiming to split Shrek and Fiona up and so take the Kingdom over.
I don´t particularly like the innuendos as it is a U ...

Quick review of Shrek / Shrek 2 (Box Set) (DVD)
I went to see Shrek 2 by mistake, but ended up loving it so much that I had to get the DVD of both Shrek and Shrek 2. I love Michael Myers in both, but my favorite part has to be Julie Andrews and John Cleese as king and queen of Far, Far Away. I particularly loved the journey to Far, Far Away in the second film with Donkey, played voice-wise by Eddie Murphy, asking the oft-repeated question, "Are we there yet?"
Both films are great fun, with pieces for adults and children, following the tradition of early Hollywood cartoons that were shown at the theater. As Shrek 3 is about to start, I just wanted to give a little plug for these earlier films, too. ...

At first I thought shrek was for younger kids, not older teenagers like myself but when I saw this box set in HMV's sale for £15 I thought I'd better get it as so many people had told me how good shrek was so I thought why not give them both a bash. I decided I'd watch them both with my sister and we sat down to watch the first one. It's all about an Ogre, shrek (voiced by mike myers) who can't get enough of privacy and being on his own, he lives ... ...from a dragon kept tower. Shrek offers to do this in exchange for all the fairytale creatures to be allowed back in the kingdom therefore he gets his privacy back, so he and his wiseguy sidekick donkey(voiced by eddie murphy) trek off to save the fair princess. Of course shrek ends up saving her and as a result gives her her first kiss, they fall in love and so on but there is a nice little twist complementary of don't judge a book by it's character ...
