This is the sequel to the first of the Shrek movies, about a big, grumpy but lovable green ogre living amongst other famous fairy tale characters. Released in 2004, this animated masterpiece by Dreamworks is a joy to watch as a child or as an adult! For little ones, it is colourful and animated brilliantly using outstanding digital visual effects. The fairytale characters will be instantly recognisable to children who are familiar with such famous stories as Pinoccio and Puss in Boots. For the adults, the underlying humor is fantastic, something that the younger viewers would not pick up on so the characters get away with it. The story tells of Shrek going to meet his love, Fiona's, parents; the King and Queen of Far Far Away. The Fairy Godmother is not so typically friendly in this tale, as the mother of the rather vain Prince Charming tries to get her son to become heir to the throne. Once again, however, faithful friend to Shrek Donkey, and the new arrival Puss in Boots, help Shrek to overcome the wicked fairy and Prince. My favourite little characters Pinoccio and The Gingerbread Man also feature again. The voices of Jennifer Saunders and Rupert Everett feature as the Fairy Godmother and Charming this time around. This DVD offers great added extras to entertain the viewer. They include; hilarious technical out-takes, Meet Puss in Boots an interview, the film-makers commentry, the Technology of Shrek 2, Over 15 Games and Activities for children involving the characters, Shrek's Music Room and the added extra: Far Far Away Idol, which i thought was very funny. It comprises of the main charcters singing songs and there is a different winner everytime, as judged by a fun digital adaption of Simon Cowell himself! So if you want to watch Puss in Boots sing Livin' La Vida Loca, get this DVD now! It is up there with the other animated films such as Pixars Toy Story and Monsters Inc. Also, being the second in this series shows that the first one was popular enough to carry the story on. The Shrek films definitely have their own sound, choosing similar types of music. The soundtrack boasts music by the likes of Lipps Inc, Nick Cave, Counting Crows and the Eels. It runs for approx. 1 and a half hours, contains mild language and comic fight scenes. It is classed as Universal. Enjoy!!
