buenos dios el burro? no quite what you expect shrek to say to donkey now is it? but if you own the dvd of this great film, it is one of the great extra options you can enjoy while watching the film. for those of you that dont know, shrek is an animated adventure that follows an ogre and a donkey on a quest. the tale is exceptionally well made and features the voices of famous actors and actresses such as mike myers (shrek), eddie murphy (donkey) and princess fiona (cameron diaz). while this is a childrens film, it appeals to all generations with cleverly written humour that allows adult jokes to harmlessly pass over the heads of little ones while still being funny enough to impress the kids. if i say to you "watch the information booth scene" with the puppets telling you to "shine your shoes, wipe your.....face" you would know what i mean!!! Being an animated feature, it has to be one of the best films ever made of its genre. Even now with the evolution of effects, it still looks groundbreaking after 2 years. The shadows, lighting, interaction and gerneral portrayal is 2nd to none and so lifelike. sometimes you actually forget you are watching a posh cartoon and think the people are real!!! Soundtrack is cool with lots of songs that you recognise from now and years gone by. It helps make Shrek a truly hip kind of film. This also comes into its own with the "Kareoke" scene only available on the DVD and Video.
so the story is excellent. the effects and animation is excellent. it is full of famous voices from hollywood and is great entertainment for the whole family. great. however, you can see this on the video and even on sky. so what extras are you getting on the dvd?
ok, you get the standard "how this film was made" documentary that some people like to watch. not the highlight for me but interesting all the same. The Menu navigation was nice and simple with big icons to press for the children. Also bright colours (like the film) att to the brightness and appeal.
secondly you get the ability to interact with the characters. this can involve rewriting the wording with your own recorded voices or simply swapping the clothes and body parts of the characters. this can be quite funny and keeps the kids amused puttting dresses on shrek!!!
one great feature of this dvd is that it has the other languages on it. this means shrek can speak spanish, french, etc. so if your kids know the script off by heart, put it onto the spanish version and use it as a teaching aid for learning spanish. it is amazing how quick they can pick up certain words!!!
possibly the most famous feature of the dvd and the Video and not on the Sky version is the extra footage. I bring your attention here to the Fairy Tale Creature's Kareoke. This involves most of the Characters performing solos and duets as only they can. Quite amusing on its own.
So there you have it. I dont want to talk too much about the film story as It will spoil it apart from it is excellent and something that everyone should watch at least once. The more you watch it, the more new bits you see appear.
