Shrek is one of those movies that will have you in stitches from the minute you start watching it, until the minute it ends! It's so funny. Is it aimed for children? Well, I think not! Although it is a family film, adults will get the humour more than kids, I reckon!
SHREK is an over-sized green ogre with a fat belly and funny looking ears. He lives on his own in a small house surrounded by swamp. He loves his home, and loves his food. I don't think he really wants to be on his own. It's just that he knows everybody is frightened of him, and thinks he's ugly, so thinks he's better off on his own.
Now, he teams up - unwillingly - with a donkey, aptly named 'donkey'. Donkey is spoken by Eddie Murphy. Poor Donkey is put up for sale, but escapes, and is eager to befriend Shrek, voiced by Mike Myers. Shrek isn't particularly interested in having a donkey as a friend, but seems to put up with him. Although, Donkey has the unfortunate affliction of talking too much. He simply can't help himself! Hence, Shrek is close to bursting point on a few occasions, and can often be heard telling Donkey to shut up!
Anyway, Lord Farquaad, the king of the kingdom, is after a wife. After the Blind Date spoof where he can choose one of 3 women, A) Snow White B) Sleeping Beauty c) Princess Fiona. He opts for the last one - Princess Fiona. She is trapped in a castle fiercly guared by a (female) dragon!
It is Shrek's quest to get the princess and deliver her to Lord Farquaad, voiced by John Lithgow. Princess Fiona (aca Cameron Diaz), is eventually saved from the depths and despair of the cold and bleak castle, and promptly delivered to the Lord. I shan't go into details about their journey from A to B, but it is full of excitement! The dragon, I think, is a real cutie! She ends up helping Shrek and Donkey, and is really a lovely beast!
Is the Princess all that she seems to be? Does she marry the Lord? Does she marry anyone? Umm...see the film for yourself, and the questions shall be answered!
It's an extremely funny film, and well made. I could easily watch this film over and over again, and advise everyone to watch it - if you haven't done so already!
ightfully fractured fairy tale. Our title character (voiced by Mike Myers) is an agreeable enough ogre who wants to live his days in peace. When the diminutive Lord Farqu...
