This in so many ways is a fairy tale, there are charactters from fairy tales i.e sleeping beuty, snow white and the seven dwarfs, talking animals and many many more.
Its mainly about an ogar, who is chosen to save a princess from a castle with a dragon as the guard (to make sure the princess doesn't get away and anyone who goes in doesn't go out!), hs chosen for this as he goes to the castle to talk to the king as he has taken all of the fairy tale characters homes away!!!!!!!!!! Hes gets chosen to because he is stronger and braver than the other warriors who are trying out for it.
The king wishes to have a princess and has to chose out of 3, these include sleeping beauty and on a another. As shrek (voice done by mike myers) (the ogar) has never had any friends as he is vile and unfriendly he finds it hard to cope with the donkey that wants to be his friend (voice done by eddie murphy).
Shrek sets off to save the princess as the king promised in return he would return all the chracters to their homes (shrek wishes to be left alone!). It is a long journey but he gets there in no time, his donkey friend accompanies him, and shrek gets to like him over time.
When they get to the castle they were not expecting the dragon to be there! They easily overcome the dragon as it is a female drangon and she likes the donkey, so whilst they are occupied together, Shrek goes to save the princess. The princess was not expecting to be saved as all the other warriors have been stopped by the dragon. When shrek gets to her he is nit what she is expecting. She though she would have prince charming instead she got an ogar ( she didn't know at first till he took his hat off) with bad manners that smelt horrible!
She is hesiant at first as she wanted to be rescued by a handsome prince that would sweep her off her feet and pamper her etc etc. When he tells her hes just there to rescue her they are on their way to the prince.
Along the way back shrek falls in love with the princess, despite her rudeness. this happens as hes impressed with her fighting skills, thoughfulness, friendliness.
The princess has a dark secret that she doesn't want anybody to know about, though eventually the donkey finds out, shes not that bothered of the fact because she needs someone to talk to about the fact that she is also an ogar. This happens when the sun goes down, and she is also in love with shrek but doesn't know what to do!!!!!!
The curse will be lifted when she gets a kiss from her true love, she wants to be human but her true love is really shrek. So when she gets a kiss from him she is very disappointed when she becomes an ogar herself!!
In the end all is well and she marries shrek, he is good friends with the donkey who is romatically entagaled with the dragon at that point ( as the dragin helps shrek get the girl)
This is a lovely, funny, new film that all families will enjoy, its a classic and very fun, though parts do drag its worth it to watch. it would be best on the big screen but if you didn't manage that then its definitely worth watching it on t.v!!!!!
