In this meet-the-parents sequel to the romantic fairy tale in which two ogres fall in love, SHREK 2 brings the loveable green menace (voiced by Mike Meyers) back to the big screen...
more...for a second round of mischief. This time around, in addition to the voices of Cameron Diaz (as Shrek's sweetheart Fiona) and Eddie Murphy (as their companion Donkey), Julie Andrews and John Cleese chime in as Fiona's parents, Queen Lillian and King Harold. Surprising newcomer Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas)--a slyly funny tabby honed for swashbuckling adventure--joins the crew. Last but certainly not least, the conniving duo of vain Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) and his power-hungry mom, the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders), spice up the action.
When Fiona insists that her new husband Shrek visit her parents, they travel to Far Far Away (a Disneyfied medieval version of Hollywood) where everything goes wrong. The King and Queen are outraged to see their daughter married to an ogre, and while Fiona tries to calm them, Shrek sets out to find a solution. He finds it, in the form of a Happily Ever After potion, which only complicates matters, drawing all parties into a confused exchange of magic and spells, all for the sake of true love. With shimmering Pixar animation giving SHREK 2 near-3-D visuals, the witty scripting and eclectic pop music soundtrack keep the film hopping along with an upbeat pace. "Holding Out for a Hero" by Frou Frou, and "Livin' la Vida Loca" by Eddie Murphy are the most raucous of the film's many great songs, though more subtle numbers such as "Accidentally in Love" by Counting Crows, and "Little Drop of Poison" by Tom Waits certainly enrich some key scenes of this enjoyable family film.

Released in 2004, this films starts with a narration by Rupert Everett as his character, prince charming gallops to the rescue of princess Fiona, (voiced again by Cameron Diaz), from the dragon guarded castle, only to be disappointed on arrival.
Meanwhile, after Shrek, the lovable green ogre, (again voiced by Mike Myers) and Fiona's wedding sequence they, and Donkey, (voiced by Eddie Murphy) are invited to the kingdom of far far away by Fiona's father, king Harold, (voiced by John Cleese).
When the trio arrive at the Kingdom there are a few surprised faces as the realisation of who the princess has married hits home, even the doves are shocked.
The scenes around the dinner table are hilarious as Shrek and King Harold exchange insults and things fly around the room, along with the pork. Poor Queen Lillian, (voiced by Julia Andrews) is simply happy to have all the family around for dinner. Donkey's expressions are so funny they will having you crying with laughter.
With The Fairy Godmother, (voiced by Jennifer Saunders), who is more like the god father, feels betrayed as she realises that Fiona has not married the right person.
The comedy continues as The Fairy Godmother and Harold hatch a plan to force Fiona to marry her 'proper' prince charming.
With the introduction of the failed assassin 'Puss in Boots', (voiced by Antonio Banderas), the tale truly takes a turn for the better.
The fairy tale characters are again used to perfection in this sequel, Pinocchio and the three little pigs, (all voiced by Cody Cameron), The big bad wolf, (voiced by Aron Warner),and the gingerbread man (voiced Conrad Vernon).
When Shrek 'borrows' a potion from the fairy godmother's 'factory' of potions the movie takes another twist as we see a new Shrek.
With potions being taken and arrests being made the ending of this fantastic movie continues to be as entertaining as the beginning.
With the fairy tales being merged with present day shops and award ceremonies you will miss some of the simply named shops as they are passed by.
The ending has a bit of a twist regarding King Harold but again, it manages to use the fairy tale creature scenario.
A great film for all the family and the kids will enjoy recognising the fairy tale characters as the movie plays.
