I just want to start this review by saying that this is a ridiculously over-the-top violent but entertaining crime thriller.
Clive Owen plays Smith, a man who becomes entangled with a violent gang led by Hertz (a manic Paul Giamatti) after delivering the baby of a mother who has just been killed by the gang. Smith saves the baby and vows to protect it from Hertz and his mob. Smith visits a lactating prostitute and asks her to help him care for the baby by breast-feeding it. Things quickly develop with Hertz and his pursuit of the baby and Smith must move quickly to protect himself, the baby and the prostitute Donna (Monica Bellucci).
This was a very entertaining film, some of the stunts and action scenes were choreographed to perfection. This was no mean feat when you consider how long and intricate some of them were. For pure action, this would be tough to beat. Ok, so not many things were blown up but the fight scenes were great entertainment. The story line would become a bit difficult to follow if you were not paying 100% attention so its worth considering that before you sit down to watch it. The motivation behind Hertz' pursuit of the baby and some of the twists and turns provided by his reasons can easily confuse those with short attention spans.
There is alot of black humour in this film too. Paul Giamatti plays the cold-blooded hitman Hertz very well, especially when he is trying to make small talk with his unwitting wife while he is trying to kill Smith. Smith has a peculiar obsession (which I won't go into here) which also provides some really bizzarre moments.
I would highly recommend this film to anyone with a twisted sense of humour or a love of escapism through films.

Advantages: Perfect for the action junkie - a highly stupid movie with bags of cool. Disadvantages: Not enjoyable if you forget to switch your brain off!
