In regard to the special effects, the movies themselves were filmed in the early 90s, however the extras and props are all excellent, I believe all were sets were on location and in Sharpe's Waterloo there is a 'bloody big battle', possibly tipped with Sharpe's finest moment where he gets to see Napoleon.
Overall, brilliant! I cannot wait to watch the final DVD.
If you want a sample, why not ...
Sometimes its damning enough to simply state that a new movie is a 'distinctly average' example of its genre, especially when that particular genre is so overflowing with other better movies or other distinctly average movies. Bad Company, directed by Joel Schumacher, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins, fits into the brainless summer action movie genre and is, at best, a distinctly average example of it. Jerry Bruckheimer will never have the word 'intelligent' applied to any movie he gets involved with, but it has to be said this is one of the dumbest, most lamely scripted, hole-ridden, lack-lustre movies he has ever produced...and THAT is saying something when you consider his previous works have included the abysmal Pearl Harbor, Armageddon and numerous other no-brainers of enormous budget ...
Advantages: Superbly shot, great casting Disadvantages: none really!

Despite the fact that over a decade had passed between waterloo and challenge, Sean Bean and Daragh O Malley work together as well as always, complete with their usual humour, and bizarre dignity.
All in all, I was very impressed with the DVD - the extra's aren't great, but you still need to watch them to see whats going on behind the scenes, and its a great overview of how the cast view sharpe.
Technically, it's a very well shot episode (I won't call it a film, its a two parter!), with the set and pyrotechnic effects being fantastically done, the cast are, as always, accurately dressed and armed, and the scenery is uncannily accurate, which you come to expect from this series.
News is, theres another new one in the pipeline, and I'm looking forward to it in the hopes it's up to the same standard ...
