Review of Sharpe (Special Edition) (Box Set) by Wdolidol

Advantages: One of it's kind, the best of it's kind
Disadvantages: Special effects not brilliant

...This box set comes with the complete Sharpe series that have been released on DVD, bar the latest adventure in India, which I believe was released after this box set, so you can't really blame them. In the box set I got, there was a free map of 'Sharpe's battles', a good thing for any Sharpe fan I'm sure. Also you get a 'chronicles booklet' which is basically a fans guide to behind the scenes Sharpe and actors profiles. Now, for those who have never watched Sharpe before, think off Hornblower, only on land, the ladies love him, his beloved rifles love him, you'll end up loving him as well. The DVD's are set in the Penisular wars of the early 1800's. There's 15 DVD's in total, including a 'Sharpes Legend' DVD, a sort of documentary by one of his riflemen analysing Sharpe and his life. The characters themselves are brilliantly thought... Read review

A very good historical drama.
Review of Sharpe - Complete (Box Set) by banksy86

Advantages: Historically accurate with terrific battle scenes.
Disadvantages: Not much in the way of dvd extras.

...Sharpe is based on the novels by Bernard Cornwell. He is a young infantry soldier in the napoleonic war who gets raised from the ranks by the Duke of Wellington after saving his life. There are 14 dvd's in the box set but there are very few extras. The programme is about the troubles and the battles he faces as a officer raised from the ranks the series concludes with the battle of waterloo. Because the programme was made in the nineties the picture quality is not as high as people have been accustomed too, but the content if you like historical dramas really makes up for it. In my opinion it is as good a historical drama as band of brothers or hornblower. But there is not much content other than the programmes.... Read review

Regimental Siege
Review of Sharpe's Regiment / Sharpe's Siege DVD by rocksthatkill

Advantages: Swashbuckling, fun, great value
Disadvantages: a bit low budget looking in bits, rubbish extra on dvd

...------------------------------------------- -INFO ------------------------------------------- For those of you that don't know, the Sharpe series starring amongst others, Sean Bean (of Lords of The Rings fame) is based on the highly succesfull novels by Bernard Cornwell. There are a total of 23 Sharpe books, about half of which have been made into 'made-for-(i)tv' movies. The DVD that I am reviewing came from the Sharpe box set, containing the full series. ****SHARPE'S REGIMENT**** ------------- Cast List ------------- Sean Bean - Major Richard Sharpe Daragh O'Malley - Sgt. Major Patrick Harper Abigail Cruttenden - Jane Gibbons Michael Cochrane -Colonel Sir Henry Simmerson Nicholas Farrell - Lord Fenner Caroline Langrishe - Lady Anne Camoynes James Laurenson - Major General Ross Mark Lambert - Lt.
