Game fish safari

Advantages: A great day out, very cheap compared to other destinations, huge fish
Disadvantages: You may not catch anything, it's a long day

Being a keen angler since childhood, whenever I go away on holiday I have to go on some kind of fishing excursion. After seeing Norfolk?s very own famous angler, John Wilson, taking on some of the largest fish in the world it had always been a dream of mine to follow suit and go "big game fishing". Whilst in the sailing club I saw an advertisement from Crystal Blue Sports Fishing. Who are they Crystal Blue Sports Fishing Charters is the brain-child of Greg Allen, who is affiliated with the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA) through St. Vincent?s Game Fishing Association. Greg has over 15 years experience fishing the islands in the Grenadines, so he is more than qualified. The boat The boat "Crystal Blue" is a 34ft sport fishing pirogue combined with two 170 hp inboard engines (plenty enough to trawl around ...

Review of Crystal Blue Sports Big Game Fishing, St. Vincent

Burton's Big Fish flounders..

Advantages: De Vito, Bonham Carter and Lange. Some great sets and effects
Disadvantages: Self indulgent, self aggradising, sentimental, saccharine soaked story - which misses the real point..

my eventual enjoyment of the film I firmly resisted the pull of the ?big screen experience? and waited patiently for it?s release on DVD, satisfied that I had not succumb to the mass advertising and hype which surrounded it?s release. So, was it worth the wait? Well, yes and no. It is a ?big adventure? which has Tim Burton?s fertile, often visionary imagination stamped all over it. It brims with amazing sets, costumes and colours, and undoubtedly does good service to Daniel Wallace?s novel as a number of decent actors inject enough life into their characters to make them convincing and on the whole likeable. There?s nothing modest about the film?s ambition but there?s no denying the masterful touches with which Burton brings to life the fantasy alter-world in which the majority of the story is set. So it?s not a bad start ...

Review of Big Fish (DVD)

Genres I: A Fistful of Genres - Big Fish

Advantages: There is magic in the world after all
Disadvantages: The pedantry of the Crudup character

Genres I: A Fistful of Genres ? Big Fish Big Fish, based on a book I?ve never read, tells the story of Edward Bloom, a travelling salesman with a taste for tall tales. He?s dying, and his son is trying to get to know the real father behind the stories, to Edward?s amusement and occasional irritation. The story spans 60 years and a fistful of genres ? fairytales, crime capers and romances fill the running time comfortably. And the viewer is bombarded by image after stunning image from the imaginative life of Edward Bloom. Let?s shift the negative stuff first with a simple fact. The son is a petulant pain in the bum. A cipher of a character, his only purpose for most of the film is to stir up conflict so we can see more of his father?s fantasy world. His insistent whining after ?the truth? is irritating, at best. Why can?t he ...
