Up live in Chicago - Another solid product from the Shania stable.
This is a must for any Shania Fan, but even if you're not a great fan, but can enjoy her music it still wouldn't go amiss in your DVD collection.
Its been well edited, with plenty of feeling for the show. It was shown in edited form on NBC as a free concert with around 50,000 fans attending.
This is different to Shania's usual format of UP Live Shows so for that reason alone it stands out. The main differences are:
Shania used a circular stage, whereas in this DVD it is tranditional format.
The song set list also varied slightly from the main UP tour she then went on to do.
Other information: Also the videos for both "She's Not Just a Pretty Face" and "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing" were taken from the concert. It has also been certified platinum.
Impressions: As you would expect from a Live DVD. The performances vary from the formal CD versions, but don't lose anything because of that. If anything you gain a much closer feel to the nuances that Shania brings to each of the songs, so you get a much more personal feel about the songs and what they mean. You also see Audience Interaction, just as she does on tour. Again, as a fan it brings you closer to Shania. This is exactly the sort of thing she does when touring.
You also do lose that expected sound quality because it isn't CD, but we had ours set up on our surround sound system of speakers and that helped bring it back up to a very good specification and nothing was then really lost.
Great stage set up and special effects showing. Perhaps not one of the greatest compared to some performers out there, but its enough to enhance the performance, and not detract from it as I feel some can do. In other words, Shania is the focus - and that's exactly as it should be!
