The silver-screen version of SEX AND THE CITY is sure to inspire lust, though it may not be after its sexy male cast. Instead, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her...
more...friends wear enviable fashions from the industry's biggest names such as Zac Posen, Louis Vuitton, and, of course, Manolo Blahnik, and their gorgeous clothes--and accessories--threaten to steal the show. But for fans of the series' wit, drama, and sex, there's plenty to like in this romantic comedy filled with familiar characters. Though four years have passed since the events of the series, not much has changed as the film begins: Carrie and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) are happy as they search for an apartment, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is blissful with her husband (Evan Handler) and adopted daughter, Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is still with actor Smith Jerrod (Jason Lewis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is trying to balance life as a mother, wife, and lawyer as she lives in Brooklyn with Steve (David Eigenberg). But Carrie and Big's apartment hunt leads them down the road to marriage, and the destination may not be quite everything Carrie hoped for.
Though the film runs nearly two and a half hours, it flies by the way a marathon of episodes would for the devoted. Even minor characters from the show--Vogue editor Enid Frick (Candice Bergen), beloved Carrie pal Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson), and hyper wedding planner Anthony Marentino (Mario Canton)--make fan-pleasing appearances. SEX AND THE CITY is full of glitz, glamour, and giggles, but be sure to have a tissue nearby. These characters have become like friends to fans, and it's tough not to tear up when things don't go exactly as they'd hoped.

Full review
I was a big fan of the sex and the city series and own all the box sets. I had always hoped there would be a 7th series or even better a movie and low and behold this year saw the much awaited release of 'Sex and the city - The movie'. Oh boy was I excited!! So off my friend and I went to see it with great expectations - both of us hoping it would be everything we wanted it to be and both also wondering if any of the things would happen that we had discussed might since we had heard they were making the film!!

So what's it all about?
Both the series and the film centre around 4 New York woman who have experienced living and dating in the big city. They have all had their ups and down through out the series of trying to find the right man, general life and also experiencing good or bad sex! The woman who are, Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte are all best friends and help each other through sad, good, funny and great times together. The film follows on from where the last series left us which is Carrie finally with the man she always wanted, Charlotte finally getting a baby, Miranda in wedded bliss with her husband Steve and Samantha actually happy to be in a relationship!

The cast:
The main cast are obviously the 4 women but there is a variety of other actors who this show just wouldn't be the same without! I will give a brief overview of each of the four women who play the main roles.

Sarah Jessica Parker plays Carrie who overall is probably the main character and probably the most well known from the series. She is actually also one of the producers of the show and film. Carrie is a sex columnist and is the narrator too in the show. She is very girlie and romantic and trusts people quite easily. She also loves her fashion and a lot of the shows and also the film has the emphasis on gorgeous shoes and clothes!

Miranda is played by Cynthia Nixon and she is a lawyer. She is more a realistic type person and doesn't believe in fairytale romance. She is always smartly dressed and is very proud of the fact that she is a hard working and smart woman in her 40's and doesn't have to rely on her husband for money. Even though she comes across as tough and not romantic she does have a soft side and cares very much for her friends.

Charlotte is the ultimate romantic! She is played by Kristin Davis. She believes in true love and living happily ever after. She is a well educated woman and comes from a rich background so is used to nice things in life. She can sometimes be quite prudish compared to the other three and gets shocked easily - especially by some of Samantha's actions! She doesn't now work now that she is married to Divorce lawyer Harry but used to be an art

Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall is a very outspoken and sexual active woman. She loves nothing more than getting a man in the sack and is very proud of the fact that she can get pretty much any man she wants. She is open to trying anything once and doesn't do relationships! She is the oldest of the group and a successful PR executive.

So how does the film actually follow on from the series?
Well when the series ended it seemed that we had the answers to everybody's stories. We knew Carrie and her 'big' love interest Mr Big, were finally together, we knew Charlotte was finally getting to adopt the baby she had wanted for so long, we also knew that Miranda is now living with her husband and their child and we know that Samantha was in a long term relationship and actually happy about it!
There was a lot of rumours out and flying around about what could possibly happen now such as will Carrie marry big? Obviously I can't tell you what happens as if you've not seen it yet it would ruin all the surprise but I can tell you the film is funny, sad and absolutely brilliant!! There is one scene that is truly funny and for those who have seen it you'll know what I'm talking about!

Is it just for fans?
I would say if you were a big fan of the series you'd probably have seen this now or be planning to anyway but if you've never seen any of the TV series it might not be as fun. I only say this because as with any TV show over time yo get to know the characters and come to know each one in their own way. If you haven't seen the TV show you might not really quite 'get' the characters as they are. However I would still say the film has a certain feel about it that a lot of people will be able to connect with such as those single woman looking for love and those in relationships with families.

Overall opinion:
I loved the film - I mean as a true fan I don't think you could actually not enjoy this film! Myself and my friend sat in the cinema and cried and then the next moment we were laughing our heads off! If any film can make me do that then it has to be good!! I overall would definitely say that if you have already seen he shows then it is a more enjoyable film to see as you can feel part of it and feel for the characters truly but, don't let put you off as I'm sure you'll love it. The film is long at around 2 hours in lenth but, to be honest, it does seem to go very quickly and I didn't even realise that it was that long! Also don't make the presumption that it's just for women - my husband enjoyed all the episodes on TV and is wanting to see the film too because he says its funny so for all the men out there get yourself down to the cinema sharpish!!
