OK - if you have read my review on SATC Series 1, you know that i don't outline the story of every episode. Instead, I give an overview of the important themes and stories in the series and briefly
discuss my favourite episodes.
SO.....like i said, this series is a fast-moving rollercoaster of relationships for our New York ladies.
Kicking off the series are two of my favourite episodes - Where there's smoke..... and Politically Erect. Here, Carrie meets politician Bill Kelley and endulges in a short lived fling with him. All appears to be going well, with Carrie on the campaign trail and dressing like Jackie Kennedy, until Bill asks her to pee on him during sex! Ewwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its too much for our girl to take and also Bill's campaign managers have told him that dating a sex columnist is bad for his image, so their fling comes to an end. And Carrie fabulously exposes his peeing fetish in her column! Class episodes, reallu enjoyable start to the series.
After finishing with Bill, Carrie meets Adian and begins a relationship with him. You can tell things aren't going to work out well when he says that he can't date a smoker and Carrie tries to kick her nicotine habit!
All seems to be going well - perhaps too well for Carrie? Who is constantly looking for a flaw in their relationship. She is a girl who likes adventure and perhaps life with Adian is a little dull for her?
Like the proverbial bad penny - Big returns! Married to Natasha, him and Carrie endulge in an ilicit affair and eventually get caught out. Carrie and Adian split and Big and Natasha divorce.
The friendship between Carrie and Miranda becomes somewhat strained when Miranda tells Carrie that Big isn't good for her and that she won't be there to watch her be hurt again.
Meanwhile, Charlotte fulfils her desire to get married! However, alas, her marriage is a sexless one and while her husband Trey looks good on paper, her marriage is lonely and they separate. Somewhat ironic that the girl who wants most to be married, cannot make her marriage work. Many episodes are taken up with Trey's impotence problem, leading to tension between Charlotte and Samantha, the sex-starved verus the sex-mad.
Miranda's relationship with Steve appears blissful but unfortunately, quickly sours. The laid-back character of Steve is great and provides a good contrast with Miranda's business like attitude and organised life. It's sad when they split, as you can tell that they were made for each other.
In Disc 3, the girls take a roadtrip to LA, because Carrie has a meeting with a production company about turning her columns into a film. Three big name guest stars - Matthew Mc Coughaney, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Vince Vaughan all appear in these episodes. Great comedy with Samantha attending a party at the Playboy mansion and fulfilling her ambition to meet Hugh Heffner but getting thrown out of the party after arguing with a bunny girl!
The girls are like fish out of water when they go to LA - its great to watch them squirm at the LA style of life! The series ends in New York and Samantha is causing trouble again, this time with some pre-operative transexual prostitutes who are working outside her apartment! Samantha throws a FABULOUS party for her transexual neighbours to make up the row and the series ends with the girls laughing and drinking cocktails.
FABULOUS DARLING!
This series is great. The characters have matured so much when compared with series 1 and 2 and the whole Carrie/Big thing is so compelling.
The DVD has no special features on it, which personally doesn't bother me. I got this DVD at Tesco.com and it was £21.99 but i think this may now be cheaper! So check it out and also compare it with other supermarkets. For a 3 disc box set I think that is quite reasonably priced.
Thanks for reading. xxx
