So why was the film so special? Was the TV series that great that fans just couldn't get enough of this brilliant show? Well in a nutshell - yes.
The TV series, some could argue, couldn't have been THAT great if it only managed to run for 6 seasons when TV shows like Friends made it to ten. However there were many rumours that cast members didn't actually get on and that was part of the reason it only ran for six. Whatever the reasons I for one, like probably thousands of fans would have loved it if it had ran for a few more seasons at least! However it was not to be and six was all we hungry fans got! So really why was it so good? What made the show so popular and why could women and lots of men (who probably won't admit it) love it so much? Let me give you my opinion.
The show: ''It's about sex''. That's what anyone who hasn't watched more than one episode will say. They wouldn't be too wrong but, technically speaking it's not just about sex. Sure there is plenty of it - I mean it wouldn't have its name if there wasn't but, not only that it's about relationships in general, dating, love life, marriage and friendship. Yeah, Yeah, I hear you say - what's so special about all of that? That's just life! Well exactly! Set in New York, the thing that makes this so special is it's done in a way that is open and frank talking but all the while still having that feeling of real life - four women who all have different careers and different ideas of the perfect relationship. We can feel for them and see ourselves in them - dating people who are just plain weird, meeting somebody who you think could be the 'one', dumping, being dumped, being in love etc etc. Throw into the mix that the four women are people women from all around the world can relate to and understand without having to explain themselves and throw into the mix the amount of fashion we see during the seasons it's a sure fire winner. So what about the men? Well they love the chance to see women actually talking in this open way and get a bit of insight into the female mind, they like the lots of nakedness going on, the scenes that are funny and of course the sex. What's not to like?
The cast: Well I guess the show wouldn't have worked so well if it hadn't have been for the right cast really. The four women who star in this are all very different in terms of how they are and the type of person they are. This is another element of why it works so well - ask any fan which character they are and immediately they will be able to discuss who and why they think they are that particular one which goes back to there being something in each of the characters that real women can relate too and why it works so well. So a little on the characters and who plays them.
Carrie Bradshaw - Main star of the show and the narrator too. Carrie is played by Sarah Jessica Parker who is also one of the associate producers and part of the reason behind much believed conflict between a couple of the other actresses. Carrie is a journalist and writes a column called Sex and the city for the local paper on relationships and dating in the city. Most of her column pieces are based on her and her friend's experiences and generally the show will start by Carrie asking a question or making a statement for her latest piece where she will then try to answer by looking at what is going on around her. At the end of each episode she will round up with what she has found. She is the one who is a typical woman - looking for love and if the right man comes along she believes she will know and live happy ever after. Carrie is the one we see with the most unique wardrobe and the most fabulous clothes!
Miranda Hobbs - She is the tough love type woman - she has her own career as a lawyer and believes a woman should have a career and not drop it for any man - she isn't the type who likes the idea of being in a cosy homely type relationship and loves the New York scene where she wants to find the right man but doesn't want to drop her standards. Her ideal man should be just as successful as she is. She is the realist of the group and says how things are outright!
Charlotte York - Charlotte is the ever romantic! Falls in love easily and is always waiting for the perfect man to come along. She wants it all - the perfect man followed by a perfect set of children in the perfect New York home. Even though Charlotte is a successful woman in her own right she would give it all up to become a stay at home mother. Charlotte loves her friends to bits and always looks out for them. She doesn't often get angry and tends to sometimes verge on the edge of being a bit prudish about some things!
Samantha Jones - a very successful PR woman who loves sex and isn't afraid to get what she wants. She will talk openly and frankly about sex and sometimes to the shock of her friends will comes out with the most blunt and honest opinions! She is a very provocative person and loves nothing more than being in charge in and out of the bedroom. Samantha doesn't do relationships and even the thought of being in a relationship is her worst nightmare!
The set: Each season follows on nicely from the last - there is no huge gap for us to be filled in on and so it makes it easy to just keeping watching and carry on from where you left off at the end of each season. The contents include each season with all episodes and each has the extra features which include commentary form the actors.
Price: Price varies from place to place and will also depend on whether you want to purchase individual seasons or just buy the complete set in one. The single seasons start at around the £10 mark but, this complete season 1-6 box set starts from around just £50 so it is more cost effective and also is all packaged up nicely in one box too!
Overall opinion: The show was so successful because it is open and honest and at the same time is highly amusing! There are plenty of scenes that make you giggle and also cringe and so many things that you can relate to that you can easily get caught up in the stories of these four women's lives. I highly recommend this TV show and think that once you watch it you'll soon understand what I'm talking about!
The show is rated 15 due to strong language and also nudity.

...didn't watch any of the Sex and the City episodes when they originally aired on television, however having heard from various friends and acquaintances that it was an excellent series, I decided to add the six season box set to my Christmas list.
**The Box Set**
This is a nicely presented box set of every episode of the hit HBO series. It comes in a black and pink shoebox style box with a lift off lid. Inside you'll find two book size 'folders' ... ...inner 'page' of these folders there's an episode guide.
There's a total of eighteen disks altogether, averaging around three disks per series (give or take).
Each disk is brightly coloured with a picture of one of the stars of the series. One thing that I found a bit annoying is that you have to hunt around a bit to read which series and disk number it was!

Sex and the City is an American TV comedy show based on four thirty-something women living in Manhattan. Stylish and sophisticated we are taken through each episode by Carrie, a writer for a New York tabloid paper. As she asks various questions about relationships she uses herself and her 3 best friends – Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte to find the answers. After much hinting to just about everyone last Christmas I was fairly confident that I would ... ...called Samantha have another hilarious sex session with another random guy (which she seems to do in almost every episode)????!! Somehow I’ve still managed to escape that scenario!

As you all know I am a huge fan of Sex in the City and I own all the series 1-6, I got them all as presents bought as individual priced series, If you want to save some money and are to impatient to wait to find out what happens next then the Sex and the City box set series 1-6 is the thing for you. ...writes a popular column about sex and relationships in New York city, Carrie is engaged in an on-again off-again relationship with a mystery man always reffered to as Mr.Big. She is also said to be a fashion icon and really loves her shoes. She shares this experience with three of her closets friends Samantha Jones,a promiscuous and big time publicist who is more interested on being "on the spot" than in a long term relationship; Miranda Hobbs, a ... ...single and fights society against the social pre-concepts to keep a relationship alive and Charlotte McDougal, an art gallery curator who is a bit prudish when it comes to sex, but hasn't yet lost her faith in finding true love.
It is truly and amazing series that is quiet addictive once you've seen the frist episode you keep wanting more and more.

...and most of the noughties, Sex and the City is an American show set in Manhattan. It follows Carrie Bradshaw, a writer of a sex column in the fictional newspaper 'The Star', and her three friends Charlotte York, Samantha Jones and Miranda Hobbes. All are successful, witty, intelligent and beautiful women....and still single. Though the show concentrates on Carrie, it follows the lives, loves and sexual exploits of all the girls in the show. Though ... ...and not just on their sex lives. However, the first series is definitely the most explicit, with the final series being rated mostly '15'. Now for the DVD itself. There isn't much in the way of special features (e.g. behind the scenes featurettes), which I found disappointing. There are a wide range of subtitles to choose from (Arabic anyone) and in series 4 there is a short synopsis of the episode you are about to view, but that is about it.
