I had really wanted to see this film as the trailers made it look intriguing but as I am not a cinema person and I refused to pay full price on DVD for it I waited patiently and finally got it for just £5 on Friday! I am so glad that I finally managed to see it as it really was much better than I was expecting.

Will Smith plays the role of Ben Thomas who is living a strange life. He is asking for 7 different people who are in need of help and who genuinely deserve it. He for some reason has the power to change their lives but we don’t know how he can do this. AS we go through the film we see Ben having flash backs to a life which seems so different from the one he is living now. He is currently staying in a motel and has booked in for two weeks.

Ben befriends a woman who is in need of a new heart as he tells her he is working for the IRS but he soon does a lot more for her by helping with her dog and doing jobs around her home. They start to have feelings for each other but Ben is unable to do anything about them for some reason which he will not tell her. As he is helping this woman he is also still tracking down other people to help and trying o convince them that he is not crazy and is genuinely able to help them.

Will Ben be able to help the 7 people he is trying to and just why is he so determined to do this and what will he do once his mission is over?

For the first 15 or 20minutes of this film I did find it very hard to get in to as it opened with Ben phoning for an ambulance as he was about to commit suicide, from this I wondered why and what was going to stop him from doing so but as the film then went back to the previous two weeks I did start to understand what was going on and how he got himself to that point. I found the role of Ben which will Smith took to be brilliant and he seemed so real and likable. I found he was able to make me feel so many different emotions and at times had me on the verge of tears. He really did make the character a one off and was able to make him very powerful in the film. He worked very well with Rosario Dawson who played the role of Emily, the woman in need of a heart, I loved the chemistry which they had on screen and they really did work well.

The role of Emily seemed to make Ben a different man and show that he did have another side and did care for people and did at times make me forget about the plan which Ben had. I was a bit dubious about her being featured so much as their were another 6 peoples lives which Ben was to change but it worked very well with the story and at times had me doubting the outcome of the film.

There were a lot of supporting actors in the film and I did enjoy the appearance of Woody Harrelson, he played a wonderful blind man and I think he did it so well I did believe his disability. I think that all of the different character all managed to give something different to the story and made for better viewing as they gave the film a bit of depth with the variety and difference with them all.

The film was set in the present time so not much thought was needed for the costumes and the sets but I thought that they all were well done and all looked great throughout. The music in the film was very varied and I found t was all suitable for the places which it was used. I really did enjoy some of the tracks and at times they helped with the emotions which were needed for the scenes they were used in.

Now without trying to spoil this film for those who have not seen it then I would just like to touch upon the ending as for me is was not what I was expecting. I had a times throughout the film thought I had worked out how it would end but I got it so wrong and for me it was a very powerful and moving end to a wonderful film. I will warn that tissues will be needed for the last 20 minutes of this.

The DVD which I have does have a few special features which include:-

Audio Commentary with Director Gabriele Muccino
Deleted Scenes
Featurettes: Seven Views on Seven Pounds, Creating the perfect Ensemble, The Box Jellyfish: World’s Deadliest Co Star, Emily’s Passion: The Art of the Printing Press.

I am not a fan of bonus features so I have not watched these so I am not able to give comment on them.

The running time of this film is 1 hour and 58 minutes and the certificate is a12. I personally think that due to some of the scenes which are quite moving and emotional then I would not recommend people under the age of 14/15 watch this. As I said at the beginning I managed to get this DVD for just £5 from Asda, it is also available for this price in Tesco.

Overall I am definitely going to recommend this film as it has a powerful and moving story which is put across in such a wonderful way by great actors.
