This film is one of John Waters finest; he takes a normal family and gives them a few interesting twists. Though this film is alittle predictable at times I don't think it matters one bit, as it suits the cast well. My cousin Thomas or Tomsk as I like to call him first showed me this film about 5 years ago, while having a pizza hehe. It really made me laugh at times how cheeky and naughty the mother (Kathleen Turner) is. She leads a normal life, cooking her family their meals, tidying the house hold; she is the world's finest housewife. On the other side to her character you wouldn't ever want to cross her path if she disagrees with you.
The facial expressions she makes during the film make it even more comical, I don't think anyone could have pulled this movie off the way she did. John Waters picked a great cast for this movie, even Ricki Lake fitted in well! Though I must admit the acting is rather cheesy but that's the way it was meant to be, and when you watch this movie you know why. It was never meant to be a serious movie, but a movie to be shocked and have a laugh at. Which I certainly did, and I do each and every time I watch it.
****** The Plot ******
Its starts out a normal family day, the Sutphin family are all sitting round the breakfast table and the police knock at the door. It appears that poor Dotty Hinkle (Mink Stole) a women in there neighbour hood is being harassed by obscene phone calls and letters. Now who would do a thing like that?
No one would ever suspect Beverly (Kathleen Turner), until her daughter, Misty (Ricki Lake), notices that people they dislike start to disappear one by one. No one in the family believes Misty she even ends up having second thoughts that her mother could be a serial killer.
As the police start searching round, all the evidence is leading them back to the middle class family, as they are getting closer and closer to the truth Beverly puts more of a brave face on. Until she gets found out when the police then send her to court, to await her trail.
Beverly decides that she wants to represent herself in proving her innocent where she tries to convince the jury that she didn't commit any of these horrible crimes does she or don't she?
****** Soundtrack ******
For this movie they don't really have a soundtrack, just musical intros at different points of the film. Which I like in a movie, you don't need to rely on a soundtrack if you have a good story line.

****** Special Features ******
Sadly this DVD doesn't have many special features just the standard.
Original Theatrical Trailer
Scene Access
Interactive Menus
Personally this is always a let down for me as I loved to watch deleted scenes, out-takes and cast information.
****** Running Time, Certificate and Region ******
Running time of approximately 99 minutes, Certificate 18 with good reason to! Region 2 Pal.
****** Value for Money ******
You can get this DVD from most good video shops from 4.99 - 7.99 In my opinion though this is a great movie I wouldn't pay no more unless special features were added.
****** Recommendations ******
I would recommend this DVD in a flash to people with a sick sense of humour like me, and people that like there daft movies.
Advantages: A very Entertaining film Disadvantages: A little predictable
...you will find out how Serial Mom gets these little peeves out of her system. Someone in Beverly's neighbourhood is being harrassed by obsene phonecalls. The police are investigating. There is some gossip going around about the Sutphin family...Beverly is not happy and is very protective towards them. She will defend them to the death if necessary.
Dead bodies start appearing.....Who is the serial killer???.... And who IS that damned obsene phone ... ...the process. Will Serial Mom kill again???
You will have to see the film to find out.
This film is a little predictable at times, but Kathleen Turner is so convincing in this role I dont think that matters. Very amusing and entertaining.

Advantages: The best of American comedy. Disadvantages: Might not appeal to all senses of humour.
'Serial Mom' is a great comedy and a thoroughly entertaining film, exploiting to the full the talents of Kathleen Turner. She delivers a highly fun and amusing performance, from the start presenting the viewer with the image of a unique and humorous character.
The film is set in 1990s America with an apparently perfect household, ran by an apparently perfect housewife. However, this illusion is soon shattered and a somewhat more sinister appearance ... ...behaviour.
Her murderous exploits are not sick, but funny, so this film is not one for those with a humour based on light-hearted themes. She lives a dual life with a split personality and psychopathic tendencies- her constant and extreme changes from pleasant, loving lady to crazy killer adds to the entertainment value.
The acting is not always superb from all the actors, but this is not really detrimental, as it matters little with a comedy, ...

Advantages: Good laughs, high hearted angle on a serious true story Disadvantages: Characters sometimes very predictable, Acting not superb at all times.
Serial mom is a good-hearted twist on a serious true story. It stars Beverly Sutphin (Kathleen Turner) as a average fammily mom back in the suberbian towns of Arlington, Texas U.S.A. Although unknown to everyone else she has another side. This is quite comedic as she transforms from a nice pleasant woman to a heartless murderer. Must see, based on the true story of the worlds first female serial killer, a light-hearted comedy with a serious mesage. ... ...this comedy/thriller.

DVD Description
Happy homemaker Beverly Sutphin (Kathleen Turner) has a charmed life--a beautiful suburban home, a successful dentist husband (Sam Waterston), and two normal teenagers, Misty (Ricki Lake) and Chip (Matthew Lillard). But she also has a good deal of underlying rage waiting to escape....Just be sure to follow her rules: be polite to your neighbour, always recycle, rewind your videotapes, and never, ever wear white shoes after Labour Day. When one of her son's teachers speaks disparagingly of the boy at a parent-teacher conference, Bev runs the instructor over in the school parking lot. Suddenly she has an insatiable taste for murder. Six homicides later, the cops get wise to her crimes, which are committed with weapons ranging from a leg of lamb to a fireplace poker. A media frenzy ensues, turning an unrepentant Beverly into a media celebrity. A serial-killer comedy mixed with courtroom-drama social satire, the raunchy SERIAL MOM was John Waters' return to R-rated fare after the sweet-natured duo of HAIRSPRAY and CRY-BABY. Suburban life is duly skewered here as the serenity of Beverly's upper-middle-class surroundings are continually sullied by her comedically disturbing acts of violence. Turner appears to relish the opportunity to play such an over-the-top role, and the usual Baltimore-based supporting players make welcome appearances.
