This adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel is by far the best I have seen. Starring Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson as sisters Marianne and Elinor Dashwood, it chronicles their struggle to fit into a society obsessed with money and social status, themselves left with nothing after their father's death.
Also starring Hugh Grant, Greg Wise and my personal favourite Alan Rickman, the cast excel in their roles.
As well as starring in the film (her Oscar nomination was well deserved), Thompson wrote the screenplay, and although it strays quite a bit from the novel at times, she manages to do it justice (and even improves upon it). Add to this Ang Lee's directorial skill and Patrick Doyle's classical score and you have a truly fantastic film.

I was never aware that Mr. Rickman was in this film, and although I have had several opportunities I have never watched it. Next time, I think I might take a look ;)
