Scrubs has become one of those shows people either love or hate, me I love it and when the sixth series was released a few months back I made sure to buy it as soon as I could but before I could watch it life intervened as it so often does and I actually forgot I'd bought this boxset until this weekend when I was having a clear out of my old DVD's and I discovered it lurking in a corner.
JD, Turk and Elliot are now in to their sixth ... ...have come to expect with Scrubs this series yet again gives us the serious stuff mixed in with the comedy that the show is designed for. This series seems to revolve around pregnancy in a big way, Turk and Carla have their first child, Dr Cox and Jordan are expecting their second and JD has managed to get his new girlfriend pregnant already. Elliot is feeling broody but is happy in her relationship with Keith.

JD, Turk and Elliot are now in to their sixth year of work at Sacred Heart, and for the most part life is still good. As we have come to expect with Scrubs this series yet again gives us the serious stuff mixed in with the comedy that the show is designed for. This series seems to revolve around pregnancy in a big way, Turk and Carla have their first child, Dr Cox and Jordan are expecting their second and JD has managed to get his new girlfriend pregnant already. Elliot is feeling broody but is happy in her relationship with Keith.
The usual supporting cast are here as always, The Janitor, Dr Kelso, Nurse Roberts and recurring patients whose treatments keep them coming back over a period of several episodes.
Mixing the humour for which Scrubs is best known this series also touches up on more serious issues, including the Iraq war - when an injured soldier is brough to Sacred Heart, post-natal depression after Carla has baby Izzy, and the different ways people deal with the death of a friend and collegue after Nurse Roberts passes away. All of which I felt were handled well as they didnt detract from the comedy of the show yet still got across the more serious messages they were intended to.
Watching I certainly feel that I have watched this group of characters grow and mature in a way which is semi realistic, but equally for me this was far from the best Scrubs could offer, there were two episodes in this series which I felt didnt fit, the clips show and the musical show, while the clips show has become a feature of each series each one I cant help feeling is little more than a way to add an epsiode without adding any more to the production costs, though I have friends who love this one and cant wait to see what they use in the next one. The musical show however quite simply left me feeling cold, there was nothing wrong with it per se it just didnt draw me in the way most episodes do.
Over four discs the box set has the 22 shows from the series and extra features on the fourth disc (which has only one episode on it) the run time is around 500 mintues. The features include the usual bloopers, and deleted scenes, as well as a handful of cast interviews and alternate line sequences. For me they add little to the set but are interesting enough that I actually did watch them for a change.
As is usual it has attracted a 12 rating from the classification board for the slight bad language and sexual references.
Series six can be purchased from most places that sell DVD boxsets, for around £26 (so supermarkets, and the internet).
Advantages: Best of all series so far Disadvantages: Could do with more bonus material

DVD Description
With its deft combination of humour and heart, this single-camera sitcom is a both a critical and cult favourite. SCRUBS stars Zach Braff as J.D., an eager doctor at Sacred Heart Hospital. With J.D. as its narrator, the show frequently dips into surrealism as it shows his strange thoughts and daydreams. The rest of the characters on SCRUBS are equally eccentric: best friend Turk (Donald Faison), bossy nurse Carla (Judy Reyes), J.D.'s reluctant mentor Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley), the anxiety-ridden ex-girlfriend Elliot (Sarah Chalke), and J.D.'s arch nemesis, known simply as 'Janitor' (Neil Flynn). Grab an appletini and enjoy all of the sixth season's episodes, including 'My Musical,' which includes hilarious songs such as "Guy Love" and 'Everything Comes Down to Poo.' This season also features guest appearances from Elizabeth Banks (40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN) and Keri Russell (WAITRESS).
