After watching this on television when it first came out, it soon became apparent to me that this series had to be bought. It contained loads of laughs whilst still containing a story line that was worthy of some more serious programmes.

The show mainly focusses on the story of J.D (Zach Braff), who is a first year intern as a doctor at Sacred Heart Hospital who has many ups and downs dealing with both the problems of being a doctor and juggling you private life - mostly with some hilarious outcomes. The show itself compares the situation to a high school where you have the different groups of people, such as the doctors, to the surgeons, to the nurses and the the additional staff - probably one of the most memorable characters being the Janitor!!

Compared to many programmes that are on the television today this offers something that is completely different. I have heard it being called a sitcom but its fully of witty comic lines as well as quite drastic changes in situation which adds to the great experience of the show.

It is very light hearted and yet touches on some sensitive subjects such as death (being set in a hospital it would have been hard to leave these out). All the characters offer something different, from the confident and controlling Carla (Judy Reyes) to the lonely yet lovable Attorney. As well as the main cast of 5 or six characters special appearences occur from the likes of Brenden Fraiser most notably.

Overall this is a great laugh which i think every one can respect and enjoy and the DVD is full of extras which are great to watch as incites into the series. The humour is much like that of many other American "sitcoms" and all the character performances are top notch every episode.

Here are a quick description of the main characters in the 1st Series:

JD - the main focus is on this character. A bit of a nerd, JD is in fact a really good doctor although can be nervous at times. He seems to daydream alot leading him to get into trouble with DR Cox Especially.

Turk - The Jockish (doubt thats a word but oh well) and competitve surgeon that was room-mates with JD in college. Very good surgeon, great with the ladies and loves his stuffed dog!!

Elliot - A bit of a flake, Elliot is very selfconsious of herself, always worried about what people think of her and how they are going to react. Always getting herself in to sticky situations with her strange comments especially with Carla, Dr Cox ... well everyone

Carla - The Fiesty nurse that knows what she wants. Never afraid of giving people advise, Carla speaks her mind and damn to hell the concequences

Dr. Cox - Egotistical, highly strung confident if not arrogant doctor. JD's mentor and and collegue ... yet he can always find another girls name to humiliate him.

Dr Kelso - When you first meet him he is a kind and caring doctor, but once you get under the surface you realise he is the Devil (as Dr Cox always refers to him as). Only caring about profits and himself he is the hardass of the hospital.

This is the boring bit yet i guess i should mention exactly what is on the DVD itself: (straight from DVD are the extras)

Episode List:

My First Day (aka Pilot)
J.D. and the rest of the interns begin their first day at Sacred Heart. The most memorable part would have to be the first meeting with the janitor!! Very funny first episode

My Mentor
J.D. tries to get to know Dr. Cox. (as usual Dr. Cox is less than willing to do so - with sum great imaginary flashes from Zach Braff) Turk follows and tries to get a date from Carla.

My Best Friend's Mistake
J.D. misses Turk's company with how busy both of them are, and he worries that a post-op reaction with a patient is Turk's fault. Elliot and J.D. are getting close, but an interruption might make the difference between being friends and something more.

My Old Lady
The three interns have to face death for the first time: J.D.'s patient is a kind old woman, Turk's is a young guy who Turk bonds with, and Elliot's is a Mexican woman who speaks no English (leading to Elliot having to co-operate with Carla). One of the First Heartquenching episodes

My Two Dads
J.D. has to decide between viewing Dr. Cox or Dr. Kelso as a mentor. (Funniest moments where J.D sucks up to Dr. Kelso and he imagines himself earning a doggy treat - hilarious) Elliot believes her breasts to have healing powers (Oh my god this is so funny as well i almost forgot to mention it) and of course there is the memorable butt pen that Turk gives to Carla

My Bad October
J.D. is given a self-absorbed board member to care for, and he winds up sleeping with her (not realising that she is Dr Cox's Ex Wife).

My Super Ego
J.D. relishes being the best intern, but then has to face competition from fellow intern Nick Murdoch (Sean Hayes). Another Funny episode that has a very sombre message of dealing with the lifestyle of the hospital

My Fifteen Minutes
J.D. and Turk save the life of a TV cameraman, which makes them celebrities. Dr. Kelso decides to take advantage of this by using Turk (and only Turk) to advertise the hospital. A fantastic flashback when Turk wins a contest at school even though he didnt enter!!

My Day Off
J.D. develops appendicitis and sees the hospital from the patients' point of view.(What a scary situation) Elliot and Turk are his medical and surgical interns which J.D isnt too pleased about

My Nickname - J.D is gets annoyed when Carla calls him Bamby (didnt really watch this episode that much)

My Own Personal Jesus
Turk loses his Christmas spirit after spending a night on call on Christmas Eve however regains it after having a vision of where a missing pregnant girl is. Heartwarming episode

My Blind Date
J.D. must look after a social worker, Alex, who slipped in the hospital and winds up stuck in an MRI machine. They flirt, but J.D. is reluctant to ask her out without knowing what she looks like.(Typical ... but you just have to know dont you!!)

My Balancing Act
J.D.'s relationship with Alex (She is Hot) is jeopardized by the amount of time he spends at the hospital.

My Drug Buddy
When drugs go missing, Elliot suspects a patient who is a former drug addict, but Alex defends him. IT is later found out that Alex took the drugs - another impact of a stronger issue

My Bed Banter & Beyond
The episode switches between Elliot and J.D. spending a sex-filled day in bed and the ensuing weeks, where their new relationship breaks down. How sad, yet also quite funny at the same time.

My Heavy Meddle
J.D. and Elliot are not talking to each other after breaking up, but with Turk's help they get on better terms. Dr. Cox goes on the rampage.

My Student
The interns receive their first medical students. J.D.'s is very much like he was at the beginning, Elliot's is a jerk but the son of the CEO of the corporation that owns the hospital, and Turk's is a smart, confident woman whom Dr. Cox is attracted to. Guest stars Kelli Williams as Kristen Murphy.

My Tuscaloosa Heart
They all think that Dr. Kelso used to play the guitar in college and Turk and Elliot are determined to find out!! Funny

My Old Man
The interns' parents come to visit, resulting Carla seeing the similarities between her and Turks Mum, and J.D wants his dad to be his dad rather than just a friend.

My Way or the Highway
Due to Turk's competitiveness, Turk convinces J.D.'s patient to decide upon another treatment and J.D is not too pleased!!

My Sacrificial Clam
J.D. is struck by a needle full of blood contaminated with Hepatitis B. Cleared from infection, he becomes scared of getting sick which is not helped by a room full of doctors who mess with him!!

My Occurrence and My Hero and the story of Ben (Brenden Fraiser) who shoots himself with a nail gun and is found to have Leukaemia. He is the best friend of Dr Cox and the brother of his Ex Wife (funny relationship). Great set of emotional episodes

My Last Day
