Finney was a strange choice as whilst he carries the acting off with no problems he is not known for his singing ability, it is approached however much in the same way Rex Harrison used to approach Musicals in a sort of talk/sing mode
The supporting cast is great especially Sir Alec Guinness as a spooky Marley
The numbers are varied but the rousing Thank You Very Much is the definate show stopper here
The film was eventually turned into a stage musical and played about ten years ago to great acclaim with Anthony Newley in the lead. This year also sees a revival of it starring Tommy Steele in London and Shane Ritchie on tour if you have seen any of the excellent productions then it is interesting to see how the musical has evolved since this, its first outing
Advantages: Classic story. Great performances. Digitally remastered. Cheap. Disadvantages: Extras? What Extras?
played brilliantly by Bob Goldthwaite of Police Acadamy fame.
There is also reference at the end to Bill Murray's small role in "The Little Shop Of Horrors" where Frank yells "Feed me Seymour!"
The film is approx 97 minutes long.

Scrooged is available to buy well, pretty much everywhere that sells DVD's. I picked mine up for £4.49 in Virgin. It was originally £4.99 which is obviously a bargain but there was an offer on as well so how could I resist?

Frank Cross is a bad tempered head/executive of a TV channel that is seriously stressed out with a heavy workload during the Christmas period.
Clearly not caring for his colleagues (or random citizens on the street that he's impolite to) feelings at all and being generally selfish, he becoms the 20th century Ebeneezer Scrooge, being warned of his wrongdoings by the ghost of a friend of his, before being visited by the ghost of Christmas past, present and future, of course.

Advantages: funny, a nice twist on an old classic, good performance from murray Disadvantages: a little dated
I digressed momentarily from my promised Christmas theme with a review of "Enchanted" due to my excitement at watching such a fabulous film, although I believe that was also a movie which will probably watched for many Christmasses to come. But I am now returning to the original theme with a review of film which is a version of an old Christmas classic (both in the form of literature and the silver screen, not to mention many tv adaptations) - a modern day version of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol".
Okay, "modern day" is a slight exaggeration - this film was set back in the late eighties. But when you compare it to the original from Dickens day, it is virtually bang up to date! Scrooge in this case is Frank Xavier Cross, a TV president who couldn't care less about anyone or anything - apart from shocking people and getting high ...
