Now the teens in this town are all of the new generation of Horror Movie watching Teens and they know the general rules and are quite simply finding the experience fun of having a serial killer loose in the town.
The story continues with the killer going after Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell). A news reporter Gail Weathers claims that the man stalking her now could well be the same man who raped and murdered her mother (even though a man was jailed for that crime).
The story continues with numerous suspects and finalises with a big party with multiple deaths before the killer is revealed.
Watch out for some very interesting death scenes, including death by Garage door!
MY OPINION:
I watched this film first when I was at University at absolutely loved it. I think that this film is really well directed, has an excellent cast, has great humour and is quite funny. For clarity I will try to break this down into seperate sections:
The Cast:
Wes Craven really has done a good job of bringing together a great cast. The film starts as mentioned above with Drew Barrymore, short-lived in this film, but absolutely excellant. Neve Campbell is brilliant as the central character and her role as scared defiant teenager was great. You also have Courtney Cox as the News Reporter - her role as an in your face news reporter, determined to get famous is really well portrayed. Always wondered why she did not do more films!
The Story:
The story is really well done, and really just makes a joke about Horror Movies themselves. The whole part of the three rules of Horror Movies - Never say "I'll be right back" as you always die, Never be "The Virgin" who has sex - definetly dead! and "You stay here while I investigate" - another dead person. Wes Craven really does poke fun at himself and the films he has directed, and all in all it really works as a film by itself.
The Violence:
Now this is one area where I will mention, that if you are sensitive or do not like violence, then don't watch this film. From the beginning of the first minutes of this film you have a lot of violence and I do mean graphic violence with blood. For example one girl is slashed to death and her inners pulled out onto the outside! I may be old-fashioned but I do not recommend this film to anyone under 18 (although they would probably love it) simply because if is violent.
The Thriller Aspect:
I have always found this film has a lot of thriller aspect really more than Horror. The suspence as to who is the Killer and him stalking them, etc is just excellent. That is why I love this film that much. Add in the humour and a great ending and you just have a great film.
Another major plus for this film is that it has Henry Winkler in it! That might not mean much to many of you, but for Die Hard fans of Happy Days, you will of course know that Henry Winkler used to be the Fonz! I used to love Happy Days and to see him here in this film was excellant! He has a nice role although quite a minor one.
THE MOVIE FREAK:
The guy who plays the teen in the video shop (cannot remember his name or his part in the film) is excellent. He is funny, adds great comedy value to the film with his rules how to survive a horror movie and is an excellent character. Probably one of my favourites within the film.
THE ENDING:
I found it a great ending, you finally find out who the killer is and why he is killing everyone and it all comes together.
All in all, this is an excellent film, well directed, with a good cast, great beginning, great ending and just good all the way through. The violence is extreme and graphic but apart from that, very few bad points.
Core Cast:
Neve Campbell Courteney Cox David Arquette Skeet Ulrich Drew Barrymore Matthew Lillard Rose McGowan Liev Schreiber W. Earl Brown Joseph Whipp Henry Winkler Linda Blair
About the Director:
Wes Craven is of course the Director of Scream. It was reported that he always wanted to do a Horror Trilogy and Scream is the first (and best) of the three Horror TeenFlicks that he created.
Wes Craven wrote and directed his first film in 1972. His first Horror film was Nightmare on Elm Street which he wrote and directed in 1984. With Scream he returned to Horror movies and Scream was the winner of MTV's 1996 Best Movie Award and grossed more than $100 million domestically in the US.
Wes Craven was born in Cleveland, Ohio and holds a Master's degree in writing and philosophy from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.

...see why.
Wes Craven Scream has got to be one of the best horror films his ever made. Back in 1997 when I first saw this movie (underage I might add but who hasn't) I was shocked and fell in love with it.
This film was original, imaginative, gory, and it gets you screaming at the screen saying, "Oh No His Behind You", "Look No Run Run", "No Don't Do That Go Now Run" hehe and the rest. For me this movie at the time was a perfect modern day horror, ... ...movie was the most talked about movie for ages. Made some silly people make prank calls though grr!
The Movie starts out with Casey Becker (Brew Barrymore) answering the phone to an unsuspecting psycho killer. Casey has to try to stay alive by answering question on horror movies. The Killer asks her 3 questions :-
Question One : Name the Killer in Halloween?
She gets question one right, Michael Myers (I got that one right too)
Question Two : ...

Advantages: Unpredictable. Good performances. Witty Disadvantages: can be gory in parts
Scream (1996) was the one that broke all the rules and revitalized how the audience viewed horror/slasher movies as Kevin Williamson's screenplay and Wes Craven's direction found, and used, the satire in the genre. Throughout the film there are a lot of 'red herrings' to throw the audience of track which makes it interesting rather that the usual predictability of this type of film. Some of the characters included:
