Scream was the film that got me interested in film and eventually film-making. Scream 2 I thought was a worthy sequel with a lot more gloss and in some ways was better at staging some very well orchestrated scares, the stalking on the soundstage is one example. Scream 3 is a decent conclusion to the trilogy but has a feeling that it's been rushed and things don't gel as much. You just get the feeling that it was done to please the fans and finish the series as well as make some cash before horror died out again.
The film is set in Hollywood where a sequel to Stab is being made and cast member are getting offed one by one. At every murder scene a picture is left of maureen prescott whihc leads to the killers intentions to find Sidney who is in hiding. Gale pops up as a hard ass reporter while Dewey is an advisor to the Stab movie. There's some good jokes about Hollywood and Dewey and Gale's love-hate relationship is still going strong. Some of the scares are good but it just seems the murders are not as tense or as effective. This may be down to the fact that the characters involved are not as developed or played by people you have some kind of attachement to. It's not bad but it's a bit too flat to be great.
The dvd itself is a decent effort, the previous two films had lacklustre versions (although R1 has a special edition) before the third film inspired a re-release.
The film is presented in anamorphic 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen. The transfer is very good with a lot of night scenes having no trouble on the dvd. The colour levels are solid and there's no real sign of grain or blemishes.
When I saw Scream 3 in a movie theatre I remember there being a good use of surround effects and they are all faithfully reproduced here with voices coming from the rears as well as general ambience.
As for the extras well what is listed seems fantastic but you may be disappointed when you actually view them.
First up is an audio commentary with Wes Craven, Editor Patrick Lussier and Producer Marianne Maddalena. It's an entertaing track that throws up some good stories about the shoot but you certainly get the picture that the film was rushed into production.
Next are some deleted scenes which are nothing more than alternate cuts of mainly the opening scenes, they add nothing to the story and there are only some slight differences. Don't expect anything too revealing. You can view these scenes with commentary.
Next is an alternate ending to the film and like the deleted scenes it's just an extended cut of the film's actual ending. ust a few minor editions, it's the same killer, same location-nothing special. Again you can view it with commentary.
Next is some behind the scenes footage from all three films. It's all raw footage backed by music. If you have the special editions of the first two films then you've seen the majority of this already. It's quite brief and bit lazy to be honest.
The best extra is a 10 minute + collection of out-takes. Thise who've seen the previous movies out-takes will know that the majority come from David Arquette. Quite a few of them are quite funny especially considering Arquette's relationship with Cox.
There's also a music video for 'What If?' by Creed that feaures ghostface and Arquette. It's a decent track.
Rounding out the dvd is the usual trailers, tv spots and cast/crew biographies.
Scream 3 isn't a bad film it's just not as good as it's predecessors but it's a decent dvd presentation wise but the extras feel more out of necessity to fill the dvd rather than offering anything interesting.

I agree! For some reason before my husband and I went to the movie we decided to watch both 1 and 2 in sequence... By the time we got to the 3rd I was kinda screamed out, and it had just lost something from the orignial 2! Still quite funny though. Good op! - Dione
