We all know how much of a mega bitch Courtney Cox was in the original Scream, but now she has turned her book of the Woodsboro murders into a movie! Only Five characters survived the last outing in Woodsboro, and now that Sid and Randy have gone to college, and a film based on the happenings has been released, their is bound to be problems!
Scream 2 reunites director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson (who since the last film has enjoyed success with the TV series Dawsons Creek). Williamson has produced a brilliant script this time round which not only pokes fun at the rest of the industry, but also at the original Scream film.
The film begins with the premiere of new Horror film "Stab", based on the book written by Gale Weathers (Cox). As a promotion, the cinema is giving away cloaks and masks to everyone who sees the film, so when Phil Stevens and his girlfriend Maureen Evans (Pinkett-Smith) walk to their seats they find hundreds of people with white masks and black capes. Freaky! To cut a short story short (!), the couple end up dead and the media start to hound the two teenage survivors of the real Woodsboro murders, Sidney prescott (Campbell), and Randy (Kennedy).
Leading the media stampede at Windsor College is of course Gale Wethers, with a nervous new cameraman called Joel, who is fearful for his life after hearing of the demise of his predecessor Kenny! Again, Sid punches Gale on their first meeting in almost a year, due to the fact that she has brought along Cotton Weary (Schreiber), the man who Sid wrongly accused of the murder and rape of her mother.
Now that he has realised that he is a film nut, Randy has decided to take a course in film studies. This is where we are introduced to the new batch of unfortunate students, including CeCe (Gellar), Mickey (Olyphant), and new boyfriend Derek (O'Connell).
The plot reveolves around this group, plus Sid, Gale, and semi-disabled Dewey (a result of a meeting with a killer in the first outing). One of the best points of the film is where Dewey (Arquette) and Randy, who try to work out who the new killer is. The film buff recites the rules of the sequel, while the cop tries to use police knowledge to good effect, but only ends up making them both paranoid when they realise that they too could be suspects!
Again, I will not go into detail, as I do not want to spoil any of the movie greater moments. The film is just as good as the original, if not better, with both Williamson and Craven on top form, as well as most of the young cast. It's only since these films that I have begun to like the friends characters, and twice during the film they poke fun at the show (David Schwimmer plays Randy in the film "Stab", and nude pictures of Gale appear on the internet, which she dismisses as her face on Jennifer Anistons' body!)
My only reservation about this film is that they killed off one of the best characters, but I can't say more than that!
The film is a bit complex at times, but you don't need to have seen the original to enjoy Scream 2 (although it helps you to understand some of the in-jokes).

Great op and you haven't given anything away. As for the bit about a certain person being killed off, someone told me about this before I saw the film and I practically cried when I saw it - I can't believe they did it! Jess x
