Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by david_1967

Advantages: Good storyline and vision from a world class director
Disadvantages: Predictable ending and soft-light focusing throughout

I purhcased 'Minority Report' the other week for a number of reasons - 1 - It is sci-fi. 2 - I hadn't seen it 3 - It was based on a short story by Philip K. Dick 4 - Spielberg directed it 5 - It was cheap (I am and will always be a tight-fisted Yorkshireman) For those of you unaware of the fact Philip Kindred Dick is a phenomenal author of numerous science fiction stories, some of which you will already know - the Ridley Scott film 'Blade Runner' ...
...Sheep?' and 'Total Recall' was based on his short story 'We can Remember it for You Wholesale'. Anybody out there with a brain will already know who Steven Spielberg is so I won't patronize you with HIS credentials. The film is set in the year 2054 where a future without any crime is almost upon us. Detective John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is the drug-using head of the 'Pre-Crime' unit in Washington DC where murder has all but been eliminated. Three ... Read review

Dune: The book is always better?
Review of Dune (Wide Screen) by Olly_Plimsoll

Advantages: Still impressive visuals, great cast
Disadvantages: Pretentious, confusing, my copy's out of sync

...Even after over twenty years, Dune is still a very very weird film. Cult director and probable insane genius David Lynch helmed this 1984 adaptation of Frank Herbert's doorstop science-fiction novel. Specific gripes first: my copy of the DVD is a bit glitchy. The transfer seems to have been a pretty ropy job in places with freezes, pixellation and skipping (that might just be my copy) and the sound is out of sync with the actors by up to about half ...
...dread to think how much Dune must have cost to produce. It is a ridiculously lavish film, full of massive sets with hundreds of extras, and special effects that still hold up commendably well for the digital age. If the occasional ornithopter shot looks a bit creaky, the fabby shield fighting and the groovy flying Baron Harkonnen more than make up for them, and to my amazement the giant Worms of Arrakis (the desert planet) don't look too bad either. ... I want your boots, your clothes and your Camel!
Review of Conan The Barbarian (Wide Screen) by Gildor_Inglorion

Advantages: Quite funny, not too much dialogue, great music score! A stunned Camel!
Disadvantages: Atrocious acting, lots of pointless groping!

...inspiration for the character of Conan the Barbarian came from the books by Robert E Howard, the barbarian was also known as Conan the Cimmerian, as this was where he hailed from in the original books published in the 1930's. The stories were originally published in the pulp magazine ' Weird Tales '. As a literary character Conan has stature, many are the stories where tall, long haired barbarians are portrayed with there hulking muscles and barbaric ...
...With the release of Conan in 1982 finally there was a film that could do justice to the books, roughly half a century after Conan saw print the film was about to be unleashed. Although a good film in its own right, the connections with the original stories are quite loose, only a few characters get a strong mention. The film was written by the unlikely pairing of Oliver Stone and John Milius and the script draws material from a number of stories ... Read review

The Good and Bad of I Robot
Review of I, Robot / Minority Report / Independence Day DVD by Peggeywebb

Advantages: Entertains
Disadvantages: Does get abit boring in some places

What I personally enjoyed about I Robot is the opening seen of Will Smith in the shower, but I would. Throughout this film I thought that Will Smiths (Detective Del Spooner) performance was excellent, along with supporting actress Bridget Moynahan (Dr. Susan Calvin) just made the film. Both their performances complimented each other. The special effects all the way through this film are phenomenal, they are so realistic and very imaginative, companied ...
...just makes the film so individual and entertaning, it is a must see movie. The only problem that I found within all the special effects, characters and of course the classic sound track (with songs by people you will know who ever you are) is that its a film where you cannot watch it over and over again in a short period of time, you do have to leave it for a couple months before you can rewatch it and not get destracted by anything else. I would ... Read review

Great box set
Review of I, Robot/Minority Report/Independence Day (Box Set) by xoxbenxox

Advantages: Good charecters and special effects through out
Disadvantages: none

...three great films. I, Robot is the most recent of the three films and is about Detective Spooner (Will smith) trying to work out how Dr. Alfred Lanning (James Cromwell) died. The film opens with a description of the three laws of robotics that say that a robot cannot harm a human being, it must obey all commands unless it conflicts with the other two laws and that i can defend its self unless it conflicted with the other two laws. Then the opening ...
...is the sound track to the movie. The film is all about Will Smiths struggle to prove that one of the robots did actually kill Dr Lanning. Robots carnt feel emotions but Dr Lanning the founder of USSR the robotics company that makes the robots created one that could and he was called Sonny and was played by Alan Tudyk. Sonny was at the hart of the investigation and Will smith spent the entire movie trying to prove he was guilty. All in all it is ... Read review
