2001: A Space Odyssey review
Advantages: Fascinating, thought-provoking, fantastic use of music Disadvantages: None
2001: A Space Odyssey is a sci-fi film made in 1968, directed by Stanley Kubrick and written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke.
One of the recurring themes in this film is evolution. The first 30 mins or so have no dialogue at all, and focus on a very distant point in our past, when a group of herbivore apes are attacked, and one is killed, by a leopard. They are also driven from their water hole by another tribe, so they sleep in a rock crater overnight. ... ...monolith has appeared in front of them. They are very curious as to what this is, and one of them touches it. Not long after, this particular ape remembers the monolith and realises he can use a bone as a weapon to defend himself. So they go back and kill the tribe that took over their water hole and, jubilant, the aforementioned ape throws his bone in the air. This leads to one of the best cuts I've ever seen, when we see the bone flying through ...

In fact I only remembered some scenes, but there is something very impact, a strange breath, a powerfol voice that I've remembered for all my life...Darth vader, the dark lord of the Sith.

"Fly Me to the Moon"
Advantages: Old fashioned 'B' movie Disadvantages: Very Dated
Destination Moon.
At the time of its pending release this film was massively promoted claiming to portray accurately but with the twist of adventure how man will get to the Moon and stay there. Unfortunately the public didn’t want the science all they wanted was the adventure and on that point the film falls into the dreaded ‘B’ movie genre.
The film follows Charles Cargraves, a kind of Howard Hughes of his day, as he struggles ... ...only financially that is and Destination Moon is good to go.
I will not give you the rest of the movie lest to say there are the usual explosions, double crosses, a love interest and not so good special effects. Well it was 1950.
The science in the film is awfully dated and quite quirky and innocent looking. The plot is fairly decent but the dialogue at times is awful and corny.
It was I believe nominated for an ‘Oscar’ for its special effects, ...

The Third Doctor
Advantages: A new Doctor Disadvantages: Lack of action with the Tardis
Its always exciting in Doctor Who when a new actor takes over the lead of the show. So seeing Jon Pertwee in his first story really was a pivotal point in Doctor Who history. The previous Doctor, played by Patrick Troughton, had seen ratings fall over his tenure as The Doctor and this meant that a vital overhaul was required. Troughton felt that his time was coming to an end and time to hand over to another person. This gave the producers a real ... ...called The War Games, Pertwee's Doctor has been exiled on Earth as punishment, in fact Pertwee's first scene as The Doctor has him literally collapsing out of the Tardis in woodland, only to be found and taken to hospital suffering the after effects of a forced regeneration. At the same time a series of meteors land nearby which give UNIT a reason to investigate these strange landings. As the investigations continue the trail of discovery leads to ...

The plot has The Doctor, Sarah and Harry materialise in the TARDIS on a space station orbiting the Earth in the future, where they find the last remaining members of the human race and have to fight an alien life form, known as the Wirrn.
