Blair Witch Project Meets War of The Worlds

Advantages: Novel presentation
Disadvantages: Not for people who get motion sickness from personal video cameras

I have often passed this DVD in my local supermarkets wondering whether it was worth watching. It has got a cover a bit similar to The Day After Tomorrow scene, unfortunately the security tag on the back of the DVD has always prevented me from reading its brief description which says "From visionary producer J.J. Abrams (Lost) and director Matt Reeves comes the worldwide sensation of nonstop terror and suspense everyone is talking about." Perhaps ...
...I know has been talking about this film, and there is nothing in the description that really tells me anything about what this film is really about, in the end it was the film scenes on the dustjacket that sold me the idea of buying the film, expecting high quality affects to the quality of The Day After Tomorrow. If anybody like me, buys the film for this reason, expecting high quality dramatic special effects like The Day After Tomorrow, you will ...

...to have two rooms. The Doctor arrives in time to be forced to retrieve an amulet from 19th Century Scotland, while trusty and busty assistant Peri is tied to a stick and menaced by the Morlox (sounds painful). Oh, and the Bandrils on the planet next door are preparing to start a war for some food supplies. Grabbing... that tinsel when... The money had run out. Whether it was the foreign filming for The Two Doctors, or the lavish sets and ...
...cheap cottage set, and the Doctor picks up a writer interested in time machines and science called Herbert. Guess who he turns out to be? The one ray of light in the entire production is the Borad's prosthetic make-up, which is the sort of deformed villain that Doctor Who does so well, in the tradition of Sharaz Jek, Magnus Greel and the Master. The director of this story is Pennant Roberts, a chap who you might call a 'stalwart' of British TV ...

New York City through a Camcorder!

Advantages: Brilliant suspense and atmosphere, beautiful picture and a quality True HD soundtrack, good extras.
Disadvantages: Only 84 minutes long which might seem short to some, questionable ending.

...and thriller films, but when Cloverfield came on to the horizon with some tongue-wetting teasers, I had to check it out. I personally hadn't heard of the films main stars Michael Stahl-David, Odette Yustman and T.J. Miller, among others, and therefore wasn't expecting the top Hollywood film that Cloverfield ended up being. The film's style is far different than anything I've witnessed before, which in my opinion is a good thing as it introduces ...
...majority of Cloverfield is shot through a High Definition Camcorder and this allows the events of the film to be viewed through one of the characters perspectives. The result of a camcorder being used brings a rather shaky feel to the film which is a bit like marmite; you either love it or hate it! I personally favoured this view as it really allows you to get in touch with the character called "Hud" who is played by T.J. Miller. Some people have ...

Self Sufficiency Gone Mad

Advantages: Reasonable second series of this popular 70's sci-fi fare

...back to basics reality. The Survivors told the story of a Chinese scientist who spread a flu like virus across the world, the result of this was that only one in every 10,000 people was immune to the virus, those that got the virus died. If you believe the rumours the second series of Survivors comes shrouded in irony. The shows creator and script writer Terry Nation having obliterated his other show Doctor Who in the charts during the Survivors ...
...head man, while he wanted Survivors to be successful he soon realised that there was not space in the ratings for two cult shows. This combined with a series of argument apparently caused Nation to leave. As he did however Tom Baker took over the helm as Doctor Who and that show shot back up the charts, as it shot up Survivors shot down. The reason for Survivors failing ratings? The disposal of its lead character, and the fact that Survivors went ...

A Legacy

Advantages: One of the most influential shows of all time
Disadvantages: None

...starting year of 1975, The Survivors was a very British drama. At the time science fiction and horror drama was rife, the viewers pretty much demanded it. The Survivors was a tale of the end of days; a genetic scientist brings the world to a sudden stop by causing the spread of a flu like illness, which he unknowingly spread across the planet whilst trying to promote greener practises (ironically an issue so strong in our minds now but never addressed ...

On their way they make great friends, become part of new communities, a engage in a sort of historical warfare with Arthur Wormley (Played by Inspector Wexford star George Baker) a man who has dreams of rebuilding the country by first rebuilding parliament. The Survivors is probably the inspiration ...
