Bug war! Advantages: Awesome scifi war movie adapted from a novel Disadvantages: Could have been a bit longer The Earth is coming under a new alien threat from bugs! They even drop a meteor on Brazil (an idea they stole from Jerry Niven's novel Footfall) and the worlds Governments decide that a hard miltary strike back at them is the only solution. Paul Verhoeven is an excellent director. I liked this and I'd also previously liked Total Recall which he also directed. Micheal Ironside is truly brilliant in this and very well cast in his role indeed. He always ... ...a change he's actually a good guy. He gets some excellent lines, some seriously good action fight scenes and gets to die in an action filled way. The soccer type scene was stolen from at least 2 other movies (one starring Dean Cain and Wesley Snipes which I can't remember the tile of, and it also looked a bit like the really rubbish remake of Rollerball). Highlander sequel fails to wow Advantages: Good handling of a mediochre script Disadvantages: Script and constant darkness Highlander II: The Quickening is the 1991 sequel to the 1986 film Highlander, which pitted immortal Connor MacLeod against an evil immortal at an event known as the Gathering. Director Russell Mulcahy returns for the sequel, as does Christopher Lambert as MacLeod. The film was less successful than the first, with a rather dubious and other-worldly plot and a low level of special effects reducing it to a more cult status than a commercial success. ... ...who was a fan of Highlander is likely to enjoy it, although perhaps not as much as the first film. There are elements of genius, and Lambert's portrayal of an immortal wishing he was mortal is very good, although this doesn;t make for very exciting viewing. In conclusion, this is a well made film which has some dodgy parts and perhaps wasn't handled with an overall audience in mind. How can a sequel be so bad Advantages: Satrship troopers 1 Excellent Disadvantages: the sequel is the worst film in history In Starship troopers 1 you had the advantage of a reasonable storyline, plenty of bug killings and likewise human killings. The film lasts for over 2 hours and the killing never seems to end which is great if you like violence and action. I enjoyed it thoroughly and then sat back waiting in anticipation for the second film to arrive. In the first film they must have used a budget of Millions of dollars to produce this epic quality picture. In the ... ...sauce. Good Head Action Advantages: Good effects, Patrick McGoohan Disadvantages: Boring, overlong, withdrawn, sterile, cold, fragmented... ...are fundamentally sh*te. And yes, Scanners is one such movie. The premise is a fantastic one. There are a number of people in the world called Scanners (like the title, get it?), who have the ability to tune into people’s minds and make them do whatever they want. Kind of like Jesse Custer in the comic book “Preacher”, only they don’t need to talk. They have heightened ESP powers that can cause nosebleeds, epileptic attacks, ... ...this (hope not) – try Scanners 2 – The New Order (dir: Christian Duguay of The Art of War ‘fame’ – and yes! Surveillance - A bleak yet strangley compelling film Advantages: Sinister atmosphere Disadvantages: Unsatisfactory and predictable Surveillance is by no means as bad as some reviews would have you believe. That’s not to say it comes highly recommended to all but it does have a distinct air of nastiness that compels the viewer. The plot is a basic one which includes a structure and twist that seem all too familiar.
