Underwhelming sequel still has its moments

Advantages: Retains some sense of enigma
Disadvantages: Poor special effects, poor music, poor acting, poor directing

...subtitles and scene access. 2010 isn't so much the year we make contact as the year the Space Odyssey story continues. After the USS Discovery spaceship was lost near Jupiter with its computer malfunctioned and its crew missing or dead, a joint US-USSR mission is sent out to discover what happened. Their only clue is the last transmission of the astronaut David Bowman - "My God, it's full of stars!" The story begins with the enigmatic atmosphere ...
...of a powerful cosmic mystery, 2010 ploughs linearly through a step-by-step revealing of 2001's secrets in a way that betrays the depth of its questions by delivering overly simplistic answers. We discover why the HAL 9000 computer malfunctioned, and some of what happened to David Bowman - but thankfully the film leaves several questions open - and this is better than it answering every question in the same overly simplistic manner. Directed by Peter ...

Sci Fi finally gets a British Overhaul

Advantages: Good Idea/ Presented Well
Disadvantages: Rubbish CGI Effects/ Acting at times is dire

...2055, Sound of Thunder is a Sci Fi Adventure that resembles a cross between The Butterfly Effect and Alone in the Dark. Released in 2005 you can get a copy of this film for around a fiver (£5). Story - Set in the future where many of the animals that exist today have all become exstinct because of hunters and a deadly virus, a company called Time Safari lets 'clients' with a huge bank account time travel back 65 million years and kill a dinosaur. ...
...story itself is based on a short sci fi story and the director has portrayed it well on screen. Its not only a fascinating story but one that gets you thinking also. Full of evolved animals Gorilla cross Dinosaurs hunt the team down as well as huge bats, man eating plants and huge sized eels. Even the humans change as evolution eradicates human existance all because of something that was changed in the past. Its not an original idea however - as ...

A Sound of Thunder

Advantages: An action packed and well shot film
Disadvantages: Science and consistency takes a back seat

...Jurassic Park and more of a scientific stretch of the imagination. With directors like Peter Hyams and Ben Kingsley you could be excused for thinking that this was going to be a deep and thought provoking, and there is scope for that, but first you have to get beyond the discrepancies in the story and its supposed science. This film looks into the current science fiction of time travel, and as such raises more than a few points of conjecture. The ...
...back in time to kill a dinosaur. To prevent changing the future it is always the same moment that they travel back to and the same dinosaur that gets shot. The film has some good action scenes in it but if your into your time travel theory you may spend most of your time yelling at the TV over some of the more creative scientific leaps. If though you are prepared to turn off your brain and except evolutionary anarchy then this could be the film for ...

In ROTF, the robots are much, much bigger.

Advantages: funny, exciting, great effects, good story, good acting, fast paced
Disadvantages: too much crude humour, slightly abrupt endings for some scenes

...was expecting a lot from Transformers 2. Knowing Bay and Spielberg, I knew that they would give us a sequel with 10 times more stunts and effects than the first one. Unfortunately, they slightly over did it. Revenge of The Fallen follows the events of the original Transformers movie about a normal teenage boy, Sam, being chosen to help the Autobots defend Earth and defeat the Deceptagons. The film starts off with a brilliant scene showing Wheelie, ...
...city. A noticeable difference between the two movies is the size of the transformers. In ROTF, the robots are much, much bigger. This is best near the end of the movie when a enormous robot is generated from other robots. Sometimes in the many fights between the two types of transformer it gets confusing to tell the difference between them as their colours blend in. This is not a major problem due to terrific autobot voice acting. So, the effects ...
