A.L.I.E.N. - AN OUTSTANDING MOVIE !
Advantages: IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS Disadvantages: NOTHING
...they can about the weird alien ship. But what they find is the stuff of nightmares. With a superb cast of; Sigourney Weaver ... Ripley John Hurt ... Kane Ian Holm ... The crew are simply out of their depth and simply cannot cope with what is about to happen to them. Only 'Jones' the ships cat knows what is happening and he soon makes tracks for the escape pod. The film was darkly shot but that was to its advantage because unlike more ...

The definitive Alien collection
Advantages: Original and director's cut edition, flawless transfer, every extra you could want Disadvantages: None
Of all movie monsters, the Alien has to be my favourite and this box set is an esential for anyone who has seen and loved any or all of the four pure Alien movies (dsicounting the Alien/ Predator crossover genre).
Having been old enough to have seen the original Alien at the cinema I was pleased that the box set includes the original as well as the new updated and reditied versions of all four of the movies. There are also extras beyond belief and ... ...movies fear not. The redited Alien for example was lovingly crafted by original director Ridley Scott who correctly recognised that a modern cinema audience would find the original somewhat slow paced in places. He has also skillfully added back scenes removed from the original release which, on viewing, are essential to the plot and reveal new charater nuances and tensions that seemed strange and unexplained previously.
This set was expensive when ...

In Space No-One Can Hear You Scream
Advantages: A great refreshing re-release at a pretty good price Disadvantages: None
...just for a brief period. Alien became the first real science fiction horror movie, and for the year of 1979 it was the movie on everyone’s lips. Alien initially launched in a minor way, however as soon as the public reports were coming back obviously raving Alien received a massive Re-launch. At the time it received more publicity than any other movie at that time in the UK. The Alien Definitive Edition is an example of similar issues in the movies ... ...find however is proof of Alien life, the first proof in history. They find a dead pilot, more than four times the size of any human being. They also find thousands of egg shaped pods; these are of particular interest to Kane, a man with more than a passing interest in all things science. On this occasion his interest has served him an injustice, as an egg explodes into his face.

When is a director's cut not a director's cut?
Advantages: Cool effects, good storyline, scary. Disadvantages: This is not the director's cut
Alien follows the story of a group of deep-space miners who are sent off-course to investigate a distress call from what turns out to be an alien ship. Subsequently, a creature manages to get on board the ship - I won't spoil it by saying how - and starts hunting the crew. It's all deeply traumatizing stuff, especially when to take in the fact that creature itself was designed by famously wierd artist H. R. Giger. The cast all put in sterling performances, ... ...any of them die. Believe me, you'll be on edge of your seat for this one. At least, you would be if you bought this DVD. The trouble is, I can't recommend it, despite all I've said so far.
Why? Because while this DVD is labelled as a director's cut, it is in fact nothing of the sort. Ridley Scott even goes so far as to state this on the DVD. The original version of the film, which is also included on the DVD, is the director's cut, the way Ridley ...
