The definitive Alien collection

Advantages: Original and director's cut edition, flawless transfer, every extra you could want
Disadvantages: None

Of all movie monsters, the Alien has to be my favourite and this box set is an esential for anyone who has seen and loved any or all of the four pure Alien movies (dsicounting the Alien/ Predator crossover genre). Having been old enough to have seen the original Alien at the cinema I was pleased that the box set includes the original as well as the new updated and reditied versions of all four of the movies. There are also extras beyond belief and ...
...movies fear not. The redited Alien for example was lovingly crafted by original director Ridley Scott who correctly recognised that a modern cinema audience would find the original somewhat slow paced in places. He has also skillfully added back scenes removed from the original release which, on viewing, are essential to the plot and reveal new charater nuances and tensions that seemed strange and unexplained previously. This set was expensive when ...

They mostly come out at night..... Mostly.

Advantages: Great story, and sooo atmospheric
Disadvantages: none, not even to this day.

...original. Personally I think that Aliens is in this category. Now, I agree this is an outlandish claim. Ridley Scott's original Alien, is potentially one of the most atmospheric, and terrifying films of all time. In its time, it was perfect. The effects were great, and the performances exceptional. I believe that if I had of been writing this review ten years ago, then Alien would win hands down, but in today's market the award must go to the original's ...
...that has come out recently, Aliens is as enjoyable to watch now, as it was on its general release in 1986. The film was directed by James Cameron, who as we all know is one for creating a spetacle. His direction to the film is in stark contrast to Scott's original. Where Scott went for raw science fiction, and horror, Cameron has created a rip-roaring action adventure. I think it is plain to see that Cameron was heavily influenced by the recent success ...

Advantages: Superior release compared to previous editions

...one a lavish look. Aliens is the 1986 sequel, to Ridley Scott’s Alien; this time with Terminator director James Cameron at the helm. The last remaining crew member of the Nostromo flies into earth territory the first time in a great many years. Having been awoken by a rescue crew they must get to grips with the fact that they have been travelling for far too long, and that everyone they knew including their family are all dead. Knowing this remaining ...
...Although I enjoy Aliens immensely, for me it does not have the depth that the original movie had; relying more on the action, than the horror or the psychological feel of being alone in space. It’s a much larger effort, with gigantic sets, and breathtaking special effects. At times however the alien effects fail where there are so many aliens you can quite often look at some of them and say “that’s just a guy in an alien suit”. From a very claustrophobic ...

One ugly motherf***ing film"

Advantages: Potential of story.
Disadvantages: Everything else.

...joking, either. I mean Alien Resurrection was bad, but AVP is even below that level. The characters are lame, the acting cringe-worthy, and the PG rating is just a pathetic attempt at persuading younger audiences to hit the cinema and make more money for the corporate whores within the FOX network. With very little violence or gore, even the much anticipated alien vs predator fight is a huge disappointment. The only ever-so-slightly saving grace ...
...everything we loved about the Alien and Predator franchises within the space of one hour fifty mins. Oh, and there was the small issue of the Alien 5 project been completely dead and buried after Aliens Vs Predator was given the green light to be made. Talk about a kick in the teeth. I'm going to go cry now. (C) Andy Carrington, 2009 [as part of www.andycarrington.co.uk] ...

Our worst fears are true, It's back!

Advantages: New Technology, New Looks, New Film
Disadvantages: Worst one out of the lot

...drop my opinion of the Alien saga which they have done with this film. This film starts off with the ending of Aliens, seeing Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) escaping an Alien along with Newt and Hicks. Unfortunately, Newt and Hicks characters die off straight away, which if they kept them on their it may have made the film a bit better by the fact that, not just Ripley survived from the alien. Anyway, Ripley crashes onto a planet full of prisoners ...
...So while the alien was killing off the prisoners one by one, the people who were in charge of the island were trying to get Ripley out of there as she didn't belong there. Soon Ripley discovers theres an alien around the planet murdering prisoners from right under her nose, but that danger wasn't the one that Ripley should be caring about, as the real danger is closer than she really thinks. I found the acting in the film to be mediocre as they ...
