ROAHR! Its the original rubber suited monster!
Advantages: pure B movie fun, oddly thought provoking Disadvantages: not many, gotta love the cheesy effects! Subtitles may distract
...Will true love prevail? Can Godzilla be killed,and is he the only one of his kind? Will this catastrophe bring the evil of the atomic age with the desruction of civilisation? Watch, and find out!
~~~Cast~~~ This is very much an ensemble piece of a film. Seemingly small parts all serve to move the story forawrd, with no truly unimportant parts with speaking lines. The cast are:
• Takashi Shimura ................. Dr Kyōhei Yamane • Momoko Kouchi ... ...a pleasure boat • Godzilla ................ Katsumi Tezuka and Haruo Nakajima
Note that Godzilla has two names next to him. This is because in 1954, there of course no CGI effects available and miniature models were ineffective in scenes with live people. Therefore, a rubber suit was used in several scenes. The acting appears to be fairly good quality for a B movie, but the monster is what the film is about, and he is by far the most memorable.
Gattaca
Advantages: Tackles interesting themes, Great moments Disadvantages: Poor ending
As I became a fan of Andrew Niccol's work after watching The Trueman Show, I was really looking forward to watching this and I wasn't disappointed. Set in a "not too distant future" where parents can genetically configure their children down to the last detail prior to birth which has resulted in DNA being the determining feature of a persons social class. The film stars Ethan Hawke as Vincent Freeman, a troubled member of the social underclass struggling ... ...As the main character, through his narration we learn of his troubled past and how he instilled in himself his sense of self-worth. His character is very well executed and appeals to the underdog in all of us. Jude Law played Jerome Morrow, who I found to be the most interesting character. Paralyzed from the waist down, he is a former swimming star with a genetic profile. Equipped with a snobbish drawl, his performance is solid throughout and I found ...
Worth 101 Minutes of your time!
Advantages: Gripping, Original Storyline Disadvantages: Not many people know about it
I first saw this film late night on tv, i flicked on because i couldn't sleep. I was expecting to see the usual rubbish they put on tv at around 2-3am but a film i'd never heard of was on so i thought id give it a shot. From the first few scenes i could tell i was in for a suprise.
Some inspired casting sees Ethan Hawke as the main character Vincent Freeman, Uma Thurman as his love interest Irene Cassini and Jude Law as his friend of sorts, Jerome ... ...couldn't suggest any who were better picked for the roles.
The story is set in the not too distant future where most humans are genetically engineered to make them in an image of perfection. Although, some children are still born the old fashioned way, and anyone born this way is looked down upon and obviously lacks qualities that the super-humans were born to inherit. The main character Vincent (Hawke) is one of these children of god, although ...
One of the best films of the year 2000
Advantages: Comedy at it's finest. In a naive way in which the whole family will appreciate. Disadvantages: The sometimes too obvious humour.
...end up in space. Galaxy quest is just over 100 minutes long, and gained PG ratings in both the UK and the USA. The director Dean Parisot, allows the characters to share both soppy moments with other characters as well as making us laugh in a way that is contagious! One recurring hillarity that tickled my humour was Sigourney Weavers' role of talking to the computer and repeating the reply the computer makes every time. In fact she has said in an ... ...play Gwen in the film, she felt her 'IQ drop precipitously'! Another hillarious scene is when the sci-fi geeks (including Justin Long) on planet earth lead them around the spaceship from home! This is a comedy which can be viewed repeatedly and still have the same affect on you as the first time. It also highlights the fact that actors are ultimately liars to merely entertain the public, which in the way Dean Parisot portrays it, makes it seem humourous. ...
