Review of Minority Report (Wide Screen) by david_1967

Advantages: Good storyline and vision from a world class director
Disadvantages: Predictable ending and soft-light focusing throughout

I purhcased 'Minority Report' the other week for a number of reasons - 1 - It is sci-fi. 2 - I hadn't seen it 3 - It was based on a short story by Philip K. Dick 4 - Spielberg directed it 5 - It was cheap (I am and will always be a tight-fisted Yorkshireman) For those of you unaware of the fact Philip Kindred Dick is a phenomenal author of numerous science fiction stories, some of which you will already know - the Ridley Scott film 'Blade Runner' ...
...Sheep?' and 'Total Recall' was based on his short story 'We can Remember it for You Wholesale'. Anybody out there with a brain will already know who Steven Spielberg is so I won't patronize you with HIS credentials. The film is set in the year 2054 where a future without any crime is almost upon us. Detective John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is the drug-using head of the 'Pre-Crime' unit in Washington DC where murder has all but been eliminated. Three ... Read review

TNG Season 4 - My personal favourite
Review of Star Trek - The Next Generation - Series 4 DVD by Happenstance

Advantages: So much cheaper than the larger TNG alternatives
Disadvantages: Not the most special features

Season 4 of Star Trek The Next Generation is probably my personal favourite. It has a multitude of classic trek episodes and starts with probably the most famous and tense season resolutions in the Star Trek universe with the second part of "Best Of Both Worlds". Most of the main cast get their own episodes in this season so the stories are nice and varied. Even though this season is quite a few years old now a lot of the stories told still feel ...
...of slimline boxsets to the Star Trek franchise is definately a good move. I had bought a few of the larger sets and was always annoyed at the price and the fact that they never really fit into my collection. Of course now I do not have this problem so I can finish off buying all of the others. There are not too many special features however apart from some featurettes. These are nice to watch but I would have also like some commentary tracks to ... Read review

Striking back twice over
Review of Star Wars - Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back (Limited Edition) by morgandr

Advantages: The original cut of the movie alongside the remastered version
Disadvantages: No special features

Star Wars. Those two words conjure up emotions in many men who were once young boys and prompt any stick, pole or broom handle to be wielded around to an accompanying 'voom voom, kapow' sound effect. Women who were once young girls look on bemused as grown men become Jedi fighting the evil Empire when they should be sweeping, mopping or doing whatever it was they should have been doing. Since 1977 George Lucas' space opera has been wowing audiences ...
...The Empire Strikes Back (or Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back as it has been retitled) is the second of the original 'holy trinity' and is seen by many as the darkest of the three movies. Starting on the ice planet of Hoth, the rebellion's new base of operations, we follow the adventures of Luke, Han Solo (Harrision Ford), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), Princess Lea (Carrie Fisher) and the droids R2D2 and C3PO (Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels) ... Stargate Atlantis Season One
Review of Stargate Atlantis - Series 1 - Complete DVD by ryanando

Advantages: Good cast, great stories, Dvd extras to make you laugh
Disadvantages: the box covers a bit of a pain.

I'm a huge Stargate fan. So much so that I refused to defile my love of the gate by buying into spin offs (even if technically sg1 is a spin off, hush!) Now that Stargate sg1 is finished I found my self at a loss as to where to get my next Stargate fix before the new movies come out. I decided to give in and bought Stargate Atlantis Season One. I went into this as a total skeptic. I'm terrible for trying to pick things apart. So in went the first ...
...those new to the whole Stargate thing (possibly people from a different planet?) could follow it, it got good! After one episode I was hooked and kicking myself for not having watched it sooner. After a day or two of constant watching (I was addicted) I had finished the box set. Not only were the episodes all up to SG1 standard, they introduced some great new characters and ideas. It left me hanging on the edge of my seat desperate to buy the next ... Read review

Yub Nub!
Review of Star Wars - Episode 4 - A New Hope (Limited Edition) by clownfoot

Advantages: It's Star Wars!
Disadvantages: You're having a giraffe, right?

STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE 5 Stars - Genius! End of review. What? You need more? But what else is there to say about the starting point of George Lucas' behemoth franchise that hasn't already been said? Countless polls have already established that Darth Vader is the biggest bad arse ever to set foot on celluloid; the Star Destroyer thundering into view over Tattoine is one of cinema's greatest opening sequences; the Millennium Falcon is the coolest ...
...typewriters have already said about Star Wars during the last thirty years. From Leia's bagel shaped ear-muffs, to Han shooting Greedo first, to the comedy stormtrooper who fails to duck under the blast door; in all seriousness, do you really want to hear all that gubbins again? You do! Bunch of mindless gibbons… A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, (Originality raises a lightsaber to its heart and proves it's no match for a blaster at the ... Read review
