Love, the Atlantian way Advantages: Another brilliant season from Atlantis Disadvantages: it has to end at some point .... . . ---What is Stargate Atlantis?--- Put simply, SG Atlantis is a spin off of the incredibly successful Series Stargate SG-1, which is a spin-off of the movie Stargate (confused yet?) The movie centres around the discovery of what they call the Stargate. The Stargate is a huge ring with nine pretty little pictures on it. It works like an old telephone in that you choose your numbers (the pretty pictures), hit dial and the ring spins and what ... ...it, I congratulate you! Stargate SG-1 expands on the idea that life on earth was not started here. It was, in fact, brought here by an extremely advanced alien race. This race happened to be a tad on the evil side and used humans as slaves and carriers for their young (slithery snake type things) as was touched on in the movie. How do they bring it back without ruining the movies ending? Simple! Stargate SG1 - Season 1 Advantages: Gripping, addictive, plenty too watch, perfect in most ways Disadvantages: expensive and may take up most of your days for the next while ...a massive fan of the Stargate franchise since my older brother brought home the first season box set a couple of years ago and we sat down to watch it nearly every day. Ok, so first I’ll begin with an explanation of the Stargate SG1 universe. Here goes. Humans are a the next step in the evolutionary path of a race of aliens known as the ‘Ancients’. They were a massively advanced race both in technoligy and mentaly who existed millions of years ... ...a device known as the Stargate that is capable of near instantanious travel between two of the devices usually situated on different planets though sometimes appear in space. So when the Ancients ascended they left behind stargates on thousands of worlds. Next we have a parasitic race known as the goa’uld which are symbiotes that burrow into a host body and take control of it usually enhanncing its abilities. The Lost City of Atlantis Advantages: Choose a story that flows tauten Disadvantages: Special effects is less good Told the team Stargate Atlantis to find a lost city. But lying open on the earth, but in the Pegasus Galaxy. Then formed a group to investigate the city led by Dr. Elizabeth Weir. In fact they only find a town without inhabitants. The city has been abandoned for ten thousand years. Not only that, they also find a mahkluk a very strong and very hated man. This is an enemy that will cause a new disaster for them all. Atlantis shaped goodness Advantages: Some good stories, continuing a great series Disadvantages: special effects went downhill a little ...SOMEWHERE) For all those Stargate SG1 fans (and I know you are out there) this season starts linking into whats happening in SG1. I quite enjoyed this, but then I've seen all the Stargate SG1 episodes so I knew what they were all talking about. For anyone who hasn't seen SG1 (or at least the season its linked into) there are times where it might not make as much sense as it should. Its ok though, you'd get by fine with just a small sense of confusion ... ...bit more observant when it came to the similarities between SG1 and Atlantis, infact at times they pretty much refer to the "missions" SG1 went on that were simmilar to the situation they were in. A little bit of sneaky story recycling at times. The end of the season Finale (as great as it is) is a well used favourite. The bad guys come to earth. Oh crap. Best of Sci-fi Advantages: Inspirational Disadvantages: Expencive Stargate is without a shaow of a dout one of the best Sci-fi series ever created. Unlike the first season where the series was trying to create a credible storyline from the film, season two moves away from that and really show the viewer what stargate is really about. In season two a new race of alience is intruduced which is going to play important parts in the other seasons, apart from loads of other exiting new developments.
