Utter Rubbish!

Advantages: good effects
Disadvantages: Poor acting, wooden at times, weak soundtrack, boring

...evening she is summoned by the government to ‘help’ them. She soon learns that something is fast approaching Earth and it is going to make impact within a few minutes. As the thing lands the Army and Government rush to see what it is and soon discover that it is an alien spaceship. From the spaceship a creature appears and when it is fired at by the army a giant metal being comes out and attacks back. The creature is soon taken away and the bullet ...

The Hour And Three-Quarters My Brain Stood Still

Advantages: None except lots of violent special effects for those who like 'em
Disadvantages: Complete travesty, dumbed-down remake of an intelligent classic

...recently here on Ciao from the point of view of someone who had never seen or heard of the original version of this remake, and I recommend reading that one as well, to see it from that perspective. The below review is for those who, like myself, have seen the original 1951 film and consider it one of their favourite films and probably the best classic sci-fi film ever made, with a script of remarkable intelligence and depth, and who, like myself, ...
...Well, basically, pretty much the only resemblance between this film and the original is the title and the fact that the two principal characters are called Klaatu and Helen Benson. Aside from that, it's a completely different story with completely different characters. It thinly retains a similar basic plot line, that of a man from outer space who comes to Earth to tell them that they are on the slippery slope to ruining the planet, and that he is ...

It didn't make me stand still

Advantages: It's watchable
Disadvantages: It doesn't ever seem to really get going

...to see this film and the reason we saw this was because we were too late t see 'Body of Lies' - I was a bit sceptical about it after hearing not so great reviews that day on the radio but, since we all have unlimited cards anyway and we had missed the original choice of film we decided we might as well as there wasn't much else to see either! Plus what one person dislikes another may enjoy so I willing to at least give it a go! Writren by David ...
...The story: The film is based around the aliens that decide to come to Earth to 'rescue' it. They have seen the destruction that the human race has caused and have a plan of wiping out everything so that planet Earth can start again. The film starts by showing us Professor Helen Benson who after coming home to her step son Jacob is contacted by the government who have ordered federal agents to go and get her and bring her, along with other doctors ...

You Look Like a Radioactive Tampon

Advantages: Great Direction and Acting
Disadvantages: Too Slow for some

Moon reminds me a lot of those big weighty Sci-fi films of the seventies where it was all about atmosphere, storyline and your imagination rather than riotous special effects and wise cracking aliens. This film is utterly beguiling, its tense but strangely relaxing, all of these is down to two men, the director Duncan Jones and the star Sam Rockwell. This is Jones' first feature film and its an incredibly impressive debut, he eschewed using his father ...
...it is a really fantastic film which is a credit to him. Starring Sam Rockwell as Sam, the only worker on an automated lunar mining complex. He has been working on his own for nearly three years and nearing the end of his term in space he feels lonely, isolated and confused....as anyone would, I imagine. With only a droid, Gerty (Voiced by Kevin Spacey) for company, Sam is alone and starts to feel a world apart from Earth, he feels he is alone but ...

Sometimes, Ignorance is bliss

Advantages: clever thriller, good story, well acted
Disadvantages: bit depressing?

Dont misunderstand my review title, this is a cracking film. You can nearly always say that about Nicolas Cage films, but this one really is! The premise is simple. There are many disasters happening on earth, for some reason, aliens decide to warn mankind about the upcoming disasters by "whispering" them to a little girl in the 1950's. Unfortuneately, that girl does nothing with the information other than write it down on a bit of paper and allow ...
...capsule. The capsule is dug up in the current day and discovered by Nicolas Cage's character. He soon discovers the code in the series of numbers written on the page and works out that the code tells of impending disasters, when they will happen, how many will die and the location. The story continues on along this path, with a worrying fortelling of the end of days. We don't know what will happen right until the end. I wont ruin it for you either, ...
