...The opening of the alien egg and the crawling thing that emerges is ghastly, when it decides to give Kane (John Hurt) a big kiss you know things are about to get ugly very quickly. The crew are simply out of their depth and simply cannot cope with what is about to happen to them. Only 'Jones' the ships cat knows what is happening and he soon makes tracks for the escape pod. The film was darkly shot but that was to its advantage because unlike more ...

...the cinema screens in 1979, Mad Max has stood the test of time. The film was as mentioned earlier in the review, the first in the three Mad Max films and Max Kotanski is the archetypal anti-hero. The plot of this, the first Mad Max movie is fast moving and well paced. The acting is to be fair a little wooden in places, yet the actual action scenes are very graphic and well thought out. The plot builds tension as the story unfolds and has you fearing ...

It's the Jagaroth who need all the chickens?

Advantages: Exquisite... simply exquisite.
Disadvantages: Too good to be true

...was the script editor on Doctor Who during its most successful period until - well, until now, I guess - and wrote some remarkable scripts for the series, although not always under his own name... City of Death is not just another Doctor Who story, it is THE Doctor Who story. It pastiches and celebrates so many things. The show's own history, most obviously, but also the whole gangster movie tradition. With a large amount of location filming in ...
...the Romantic figures of the Doctor and Romana represent hugely Godardian hero figures, particularly in the contrast with the practical oafish Duggan). Hammer Horror is also parodied in basement laboratory scenes. By mining such a deep cultural vein, and then throwing in a crazy time-travel sub-plot, the result is ninety minutes of the greatest television ever produced. The plot in a sentence: The Doctor and Romana loaf around Paris before eventually ...

In Space No-One Can Hear You Scream

Advantages: A great refreshing re-release at a pretty good price
Disadvantages: None

...just for a brief period. Alien became the first real science fiction horror movie, and for the year of 1979 it was the movie on everyone’s lips. Alien initially launched in a minor way, however as soon as the public reports were coming back obviously raving Alien received a massive Re-launch. At the time it received more publicity than any other movie at that time in the UK. The Alien Definitive Edition is an example of similar issues in the movies ...
...find however is proof of Alien life, the first proof in history. They find a dead pilot, more than four times the size of any human being. They also find thousands of egg shaped pods; these are of particular interest to Kane, a man with more than a passing interest in all things science. On this occasion his interest has served him an injustice, as an egg explodes into his face. In Space No-One Can Hear You Scream………… I saw Alien back in 1982 when ...

...know, a black hole is the remains of a supergiant star that has collapsed into itself; it is so dense and has such an intense gravitational field that nothing can escape it, not even light. In 1972, the first convincing candidate for a black hole was discovered by astronomers, and it was called Cygnus X-1; of course, the public still had a lot to understand about the mystery of black holes, as hardly anything was published in book form on the phenomenon. ...
