Not all that Fantastic any more

Advantages: Great effects at the time
Disadvantages: Hasnt aged well and lots of silly goofs

Time hasn't been kind to this movie. Your basic plot is for some reason the US Government want to operate on a defecting scientist who has been injured in an assassination attempt (I believe someone says he is able to make the shrinking process last longer than 60 minutes as an off the cuff remark) and the guy their sending doesn't want to go but has to anyway. The crew is a Navy guy, the doctor who navigates (surely the surgeon could have done that ...
...his assistant to do the operation and the guy for security. He's pointless too, plenty of things get sabotaged and not once does he manage to stop any of them. Then they all decontaminate and board the sub to be shrunk. Actually their shrunk twice and I still don't understand why this process couldn't have been done closer to the operating room. They are shrunk, then put into a giant syringe (Donald Pleasance who is easily the biggest star in the ...

Which emergency service would you like?

Advantages: Imaginative, strange and original in parts
Disadvantages: Confusing and annoying at times

A very bizare and interesting film which throws out some thought provoking idea's. An adaptation of a Ray Bradbury novel of the same name which is not as clear or concise as the book but is a pretty good adaptation. The film stars Oskar Werner and Julie Christie, who give excellent performances, if sometimes Werner is a little wooden. Anyone who is interested in futuristic or Big Brother style films should watch this, its not as good as Brazil or ...
...Werner is a fireman, but in this version of the future firemen do not put out fire they start them! To be precise they burn books, which have been outlawed along with any sort of free thinking. They ride in their rather ridiculous looking fire engine to the scene, where they have recived a tip off that someone posses a book, they break in confiscate the books then burn them in the street. The owners are dragged off to be interogated and are unlikely ...

Not much has changed in a million years

Advantages: is this what we were realy like?
Disadvantages: why cant we look this good now?

...though the film is titled One million years BC, after watching the recent showing of ' Walking with cavemen' I'm not so sure the portrayal of the human race in this film is correct, but it still made fascinating viewing. The film is based around two completely different human tribes, one a warmongering, meat eating, cave dwelling tribe, of very little intelligence, they survive by hunting and there way of life is basically survival of the fittest, ...
...take pity on him, and one woman in particular Loana (Raquel Welch) the daughter of their tribal leader, takes care of him and nurses him back to health. This doesn't go to well with her betrothed and pretty soon, Tumak is expelled for the second time, this time though Leona decides to go with him, Tumak decides to try again to let bygones be, with his father, and they make their way back to the cave dwellers, on arrival, Tumak discovers his father ...

You Look Like a Radioactive Tampon

Advantages: Great Direction and Acting
Disadvantages: Too Slow for some

Moon reminds me a lot of those big weighty Sci-fi films of the seventies where it was all about atmosphere, storyline and your imagination rather than riotous special effects and wise cracking aliens. This film is utterly beguiling, its tense but strangely relaxing, all of these is down to two men, the director Duncan Jones and the star Sam Rockwell. This is Jones' first feature film and its an incredibly impressive debut, he eschewed using his father ...
...it is a really fantastic film which is a credit to him. Starring Sam Rockwell as Sam, the only worker on an automated lunar mining complex. He has been working on his own for nearly three years and nearing the end of his term in space he feels lonely, isolated and confused....as anyone would, I imagine. With only a droid, Gerty (Voiced by Kevin Spacey) for company, Sam is alone and starts to feel a world apart from Earth, he feels he is alone but ...

Sometimes, Ignorance is bliss

Advantages: clever thriller, good story, well acted
Disadvantages: bit depressing?

Dont misunderstand my review title, this is a cracking film. You can nearly always say that about Nicolas Cage films, but this one really is! The premise is simple. There are many disasters happening on earth, for some reason, aliens decide to warn mankind about the upcoming disasters by "whispering" them to a little girl in the 1950's. Unfortuneately, that girl does nothing with the information other than write it down on a bit of paper and allow ...
...capsule. The capsule is dug up in the current day and discovered by Nicolas Cage's character. He soon discovers the code in the series of numbers written on the page and works out that the code tells of impending disasters, when they will happen, how many will die and the location. The story continues on along this path, with a worrying fortelling of the end of days. We don't know what will happen right until the end. I wont ruin it for you either, ...
