...as love, danger, rejoicing, anger etc. But as with films of this period, in the absence of dialogue we are forced to rely on the visual image to convey meaning. And this Fritz Lang does with a perfectionist's eye. When you set the first disc into your machine, you will get the menu. You can choose to just play the film with the original German intertitles and other explanatory inserts or you can go into the set up and get sub titles in English. This ...

Metropolis 1927 Length: Variable Dir: Fritz Lang Most people today brought up on a diet of CG and Will Smith Sci Fi will be totally bemused by this. They shouldnt be as it's absolutely fascinating stuff! 'Metropolis' is always cited as a major landmark of early cinema along with the likes of 'A Trip to the Moon' twenty years earlier and you can see its influence in everything from Blade Runner to Batman and Doctor Who. Film academics often delight ...
...G Robinson and Ray Milland. Metropolis was one of his first ones - the plot revolves around the maker of the great city - a middle aged man named Joh Fredersen (Alfred Abel) and the relationship with his son Freder (Gustav Frohlich). Alongside this main narrative other stories do develop - the uprising of the workers who run the city, the mad scientist with a love for Freder's deceased mother, a love interest and all the rest. In short everything ...

Sometimes, Ignorance is bliss

Advantages: clever thriller, good story, well acted
Disadvantages: bit depressing?

Dont misunderstand my review title, this is a cracking film. You can nearly always say that about Nicolas Cage films, but this one really is! The premise is simple. There are many disasters happening on earth, for some reason, aliens decide to warn mankind about the upcoming disasters by "whispering" them to a little girl in the 1950's. Unfortuneately, that girl does nothing with the information other than write it down on a bit of paper and allow ...
...capsule. The capsule is dug up in the current day and discovered by Nicolas Cage's character. He soon discovers the code in the series of numbers written on the page and works out that the code tells of impending disasters, when they will happen, how many will die and the location. The story continues on along this path, with a worrying fortelling of the end of days. We don't know what will happen right until the end. I wont ruin it for you either, ...

Return To Form!

Advantages: Classy return to form, set in the future! very well done!
Disadvantages: should have been an 18 to be its best!

...is I am a big Terminator fan. I loved Terminator 1 and 2. With Terminator 3, they ruined the franchise, it was rubbish on many levels. Terminator salvation is literally the saviour of the fanchise. In the same way that Casino Royale, Batman Begins and others have saved other franchises, the same has happened here. The most thrilling thing is that Terminator Salvation is the first film set in the future. During the war against the Terminators and ...
...as you'd expect from a Terminator film. Sure, Arnie wasn't in it, but perhaps that was a good thing. You can have too much of a good thing after all. Christian Bale does a very good job of being bad-ass and insipiring at the same time. The way its set in the not too distant future, featuring current human weaponry being used against the machines in a nice touch. The picture and sound on the blu ray edition is first rate and makes the scenes with ...

Science defying Madness!

Advantages: easy to watch, reasonably priced, good picture
Disadvantages: very unrealistic

...I remembered her saying she wanted to see it at the cinema, but we never got round to going. I admit, i was a little uninterested as the whole concept seemed a bit ridiculous. If you haven't seen the trailer, then it wont be spoiling it too much that the premise of the film is action orientated and there's physics defying gun play where the main characters make bullets travel in circles and bends in order to kill people they shouldn't be able too. ...
...will be most disappointed. The story line centres around a young chap doing 9-5 in an office job. He's not happy in his work or his life. One day he bumps into Angelina Jolie's character ("Fox") in a chemist she is apparently there to save his life from an assassin, who also killed his father. He is then recruited into "the fraternity" a group of assassins who have been around since ancient times. Killing people according to the interpretations ...
