Darker, Sleeker...Creepier - Classic X Files...
Review of The X-Files - Series 2 - Complete (M-Lock Packaging) by
heroesanddemons
Advantages: Overall excellent episodes, perfect casting, excellent special features
Disadvantages: Outdated special effects, a few bad episodes
After the bold and daring first series, we open up once more into the world of the X Files. With a year of experience under their belts, the creative team decided to take things to a new level in Season 2, a challenge which I believe they met brilliantly.
Opening post-shut down of the X Files themselves, the early episodes of this season focus mainly on Mulder, giving Gillian Anderson the much needed break to give birth. How is this executed? Watch ... ...assured, the remainder of the season once again teams Mulder and Scully together to try and discover more about alien conspiracies and the strange world in which we live. Bold strides were taken with the writing for many of the episodes - with strange concepts such as killer fungus ("Firewalker"), a human-flukeworm hybrid ("The Host") or even the crazy carnival episode "Humbug", new strides are taken with ideas no one would have ever thought of before. ...

Two man enter, one man leave.
Review of Mad Max Trilogy (Box Set) by
darth_bs
Advantages: The complete trilogy in one box
Disadvantages: Limited on extras
Mad Max is the story of Police Officer Max (Mel Gibson) and his turbulent look into the future. The first of the three films is set close to the present day where society is collapsing and gangs rule the roads. The only people willing to stand up to them are the few Policemen that try to keep order. However one gang seeks revenge for the death of one of their own, and Max is the target of this violent vengeance. When max loses the closest people ... ...not. However when I watched Mad Max I found a film that not only pleased me with its action and adventure but also scared me in a sense that this type of future could actually happen.
I find it hard to find any other post apocalypse story that compares with this, and although the third film was given a bigger budget and suffered for it don't let it take away any of the goodness that the whole trilogy gives you.
I thoroughly recommend this to any ...

Turn the lights on and hide behind the sofa!
Review of Alien Quadrilogy (Box Set) by
rob1001
Advantages: Cinema legends! Best sci fi movies ever made.
Disadvantages: Fouth movie has wynona rider in it!
All the extras you could ever need in a dvd set. Oh ...you get the movies aswel.
The first three movies are simply stunning. The first two in particular are the stuff of cinema legend and need to be watched even if its just once. The term "on the edge of your seat" must have been invented for these movies. You literally are woundering whats around the next corner and the atisipation of something making you jump is what makes these movies increadible. ... ...performances by people like wynona ryder it possibly shouldnt be watched.
Dont let that put you off however. even with the first three movies alone thi is worth every penny. There isnt much I can say without ruining it for those that havnt seen it, which if you havnt you should stop readig and buy it. ...

The harshest part is that there is no ending...
Review of Harsh Realm - Season 1 (Wide Screen) (Box Set) by
frkurt
Advantages: Interesting development of a familiar plot device
Disadvantages: No resolution to the plot lines
...the VR world, code named Harsh Realm, Hobbes meets up with another soldier sent into the simulation by the Army, Mike Pinnochio, and soon learns that there are dozens, if not hundreds, of 'real' soldiers sent into Harsh Realm to take out Santiago; some have become Santiago's confederates, and some are just on the run. For the nine episode arc that exists, this is primarily a man-on-the-run kind of show, similar to The Fugitive, working toward a conclusion ... ...is viewed by some in Harsh Realm as a saviour type, and while some like Pinnochio see all the Harsh Realm characters as simply that - characters - Hobbes treats them all as real people, sensing somehow that they don't know for the most part that they aren't real. There are shades of The Matrix here, as well as parallels to some Star Trek episodes that featured holodeck characters who didn't know they weren't real, either. Thus, we have an overarching ...

Not the breast sequel in the world
Review of Species 2 (Wide Screen) by
bossanova_baby
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Nasty, sexist, leering and cheap
If you ask me, 'Species' was a dreadful movie enlivened only by SFX and a few good actors. The excellent special effects and the frequent nudity of the star Natasha Henstridge probably accounted for the big box office.
Here, instead of the movie revolving around scenes of Nats in the buff, the film concentrates on other naked women, various strippers, prostitutes and sluts who take their clothes off before dying in variety of horrible ways. Presumably, ... ...and die because they're all a bit trashy - this makes 'Species 2' a deeply unpleasant and sexist film.
Hensters keeps her clothes on for most of the film, while the first man on Mars rogers his way around Washington impregnating the aforementioned ladies, who then instantly give birth in a series of hysterical gore scenes. You want blood, slime, rape and bad acting? Done. You want to watch a man shotgun his own head off and have it grow back? Done. ...
