...bit, haven't we?)
LIFE ON MARS - Series 1 DVD BOX SET
I only saw a few bits of the first series of Life on Mars when it was on TV. Hubby watched all the episodes and loved them, so we bought the DVD box set. However, it was only after I got into Ashes to Ashes on TV, that I decided to watch Life on Mars, so over the past couple of weeks, hubby and I have sat down and watched all the first series.
It was televised in 2006 and did really well, getting ... ...beautifully suited for their parts. Life on Mars is an ensemble piece and although there are two stars, the others are also vital in creating the atmosphere and it is important they all fit in to the team.
John Simm is an extremely talented actor and in his role as Sam Tyler, he demonstrates the whole gamut of emotions. He is particularly impressive when he has intense scenes and moments where he is in the depths of despair. While it can be easy ...

Every journey has a first step...
Review of Star Wars - Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace DVD by
ultrafrosty
Advantages: It's still Star Wars...
Disadvantages: Pretty much the weakest of both trilogies...
...what seemed like forever... MORE STAR WARS!!! The problem is that when it arrived, the anticipation of the original trilogy had given us too much to hope for.
For some, The Phantom Menace was more of the escapism magic that Lucas had conjured up for us in our younger years... and for others it was a vast, vast disappointment. I personally liked it though it certainly wasn't on par as a whole as the other three films that had preceded it... but then... ... ...the right ways for a Star Wars film. There is still more than enough in this installment to make us feel comfortable and familiar in a galaxy that we already know:
-------------------------
Disc 1:
Episode I: The Phantom Menace
The Plot:
There are certainly lots of familiar faces and names in this film to remind us we are still in Lucas's domain... and it's pretty interesting to find out a little more of some character's origins.
Of course, ...

'A Pinnacle in Doctor Who History'
Review of Doctor Who - The Caves Of Androzani DVD by
Freddie2
Advantages: Thrilling, heroic, good storyline, well acted
Disadvantages: Peter Davison's last story as Doctor Who!
...a departure from the many Doctor Who stories that have come before. It is much more intense and you really feel like time is of the essence, this story by no means plods onto to its conclusion. I believe that when an actor plays the Doctor their final story should be as good if not better than their debut story, The Caves of Androzani is a prime example of this.
Davison plays the classic good guy in giving up his fifth incarnation to save his young ... ...I liked about Peter Davison's doctor is the fact that he isn't flawless and he appears vulnerable, what is wonderful in this story is that he begins to show arrogance in confronting Sharaz Jek, it was a pity that he didn't have the chance to carry on and show this more. By the end of the story he appears cut, bruised, his coat dirty which makes the story much more gritty and believable. It is ironic that throughout the story the Doctor hasn't really ...

The Robots Of Death
Review of Doctor Who - The Robots Of Death DVD by
phurren2006
Advantages: Tom Baker as The Doctor
Disadvantages: None
...The plot has The Doctor and Leela treated as suspects when they arrive on a craft called Storm Mine 4, which is crossing a desert planet. The crew of the planet do not do the day-to-day running of the craft, leaving this instead to a group of robots, who are programmed to not be able to harm humans. When a crew member is killed, suspicion is placed on the newcomers.
One of my favourite aspects of this story is the design of the robots. They have ... ...Baker's Doctor faced in his first story, 'Robot', in 1974/75. I also am a great fan of Leela as I find her an interesting companion, with her savage tendencies being unlike those of many other companions. It is also worth noting that the wooden control room in the TARDIS, which I mentioned in a previous review I really liked, makes its final appearance in this story, which is a shame.
The DVD features a commentary by Chris Boucher (the writer of ...
