Finally a good movie based on a game!
Review of Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children (Animated) by
rob1001
Advantages: Amazing CGI and a must if you are a fan
Disadvantages: Non fans of the series may be confused by plot!
...you are a fan of final fantasy seven and have not seen this stop reading this review and go and buy it! For those of you who are not too familar witht he series stick around. This movie is basically the sequal to a game. You dont nessecarily need to have played the game but id recommend it as its equally as brilliant. On the dvd there is a special feature that gives you a summary of the game, so i would watch that before the feature. Now onto the ... ...the highest quality. If you are a fan of anime you simply have to see this movie but if you are not this movie could definately be the catalyst into the world of animated movies. I wont go into the plot too much as it can be a bit confusing and I dont want to mislead you. Its best to just watch the movie. This is not a kids film either. Even though it has a PG rating any age can enjoy it as it works on a vareity of levels. Give it a try. If you cant ...

Lost In Space. What WERE they on?!
Review of Lost In Space - Season 3 (Box Set) by
Martinscholes
Advantages: Must have for all fans
Disadvantages: Even more weird than I remembered
Lost in Space Series Three. Gosh. How time flies. Was it really all those years ago when in 1997(!) the Robinson family, captain Don West and their robot were put off course by the meddling booby Dr Smith, a treacherous spy paid to sabotage the ship. The cast list was as follows: Prof. John Robinson (Guy Williams) Maureen Robinson (June Lockhart) Captain Don West (Mark Goddard) Judy Robinson (Marta Kristen) Will Robinson (Billy Mumy) Penny Robinson ... ...and the voice of the robot was provided by Dick Tufeld.
By Series 3 Jonathon Harris had completely remade Dr Zachary Smith form a lacklustre and transparent villain into one of the most towering giants of world TV, the Machiavellian, scheming, cowardly and lazy Dr Zachary Smith we all came to love and loathe! Incidentally all of Dr Smith's insults to the robot (such as: "you meddling mechanical mountebank!" and the like were all created by Harris ...

Turn the lights on and hide behind the sofa!
Review of Alien Quadrilogy (Box Set) by
rob1001
Advantages: Cinema legends! Best sci fi movies ever made.
Disadvantages: Fouth movie has wynona rider in it!
All the extras you could ever need in a dvd set. Oh ...you get the movies aswel.
The first three movies are simply stunning. The first two in particular are the stuff of cinema legend and need to be watched even if its just once. The term "on the edge of your seat" must have been invented for these movies. You literally are woundering whats around the next corner and the atisipation of something making you jump is what makes these movies increadible. ... ...performances by people like wynona ryder it possibly shouldnt be watched.
Dont let that put you off however. even with the first three movies alone thi is worth every penny. There isnt much I can say without ruining it for those that havnt seen it, which if you havnt you should stop readig and buy it. ...

Every journey has a first step...
Review of Star Wars - Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace DVD by
ultrafrosty
Advantages: It's still Star Wars...
Disadvantages: Pretty much the weakest of both trilogies...
...what seemed like forever... MORE STAR WARS!!! The problem is that when it arrived, the anticipation of the original trilogy had given us too much to hope for.
For some, The Phantom Menace was more of the escapism magic that Lucas had conjured up for us in our younger years... and for others it was a vast, vast disappointment. I personally liked it though it certainly wasn't on par as a whole as the other three films that had preceded it... but then... ... ...the right ways for a Star Wars film. There is still more than enough in this installment to make us feel comfortable and familiar in a galaxy that we already know:
-------------------------
Disc 1:
Episode I: The Phantom Menace
The Plot:
There are certainly lots of familiar faces and names in this film to remind us we are still in Lucas's domain... and it's pretty interesting to find out a little more of some character's origins.
Of course, ...
