Ok reason behind the title of my op first of all. I like to pick lines from the film but the line I want to use was WAY too long, so you have the abreviation instead... I.Y.T.A.T.T.I.P.G.A.M.W.A.C.I.W.M.F.K.P.B means the following (As said by Cindy to Bobby) "If you're talking about the time I puked green and masturbated with a cross... it was my first Keg party Bobby!" (Sorry but I do love that line in reference to a classic favourite of mine, The Exorcist)
This is one of them movies that you can’t call a ‘Horror Movie’, but it is a Black comedy and that’s my second favourite genre. I was always a bit sceptical about these films, I mean the classic black comedies which take the pee (Airplane, Police Squad, and Wacko) are all funny, but that was back in the 80’s. So when scary movie was made, well I wasn’t too sure about it. But it was taking the Mickey out of a lot of movies and that was a good thing. So, a while back I went and bought the film on DVD, it’s got some good extras and was worth its £10. Here’s my op on a (not so) ‘Scary Movie’, M xx
• What’s this film about? The best way to describe it is; have you seen Scream? Well, almost identical to that! But if you do want a plot line then here goes; A group of friends (Cindy, Bobby, Greg, Buffy, Ray and Brenda) are being terrorised one by one by a serial killer at their local school. After a discussion they wonder if it had anything to do with the guy they killed a year ago to the day and dumped his body. Each ones get a note (I personally loved Greg’s not best!) from the killer talking of that night a year ago. The body count goes up as the group of friends
go down. Who is the serial killer? Who will survive and will the plot get anymore funnier? These questions and many more might get answered but probably won’t throughout the film. I can’t really tell you more of the plot for the simple reason that there’s not a lot more to it. Each character is very different and none of the film is to be taken seriously!
• Some Technical information about it for the movie buffs I don’t usually include a lot of the cast after being moaned at a long time back but it’s hard to pick out who to include as they are all pretty important characters, this is the shortest I can get the list down too, apologises if it offends but hey, it’s my op and I think it’s important information (I’d like to point out now that none of the character performances are strong, they don’t need to be as their supposed to be funny); Anna Faris is our heroine Cindy Campbell, taking the pee out of Neve Campbell’s character ‘Sidney’ in Scream. She is meant to be the virginal intelligent one and comes across as very naïve and funny without trying. Jon Abrahams is Bobby Prinze, Cindy’s boyfriend who lives on campus in a trailer and is a main suspect for a while. Shawn Wayans is Ray Wilkins. To this day I can’t make up my mind if he’s gay or just very camp with gay mannerisms. Still, Ray is the football jock with gay tendencies shall we say and a very amusing character. Being a bit of a fan of the Wayans brothers I really enjoyed this character along with Marlon’s (See below). Marlon Wayans plays Shorty Meeks and is the druggie of the school who’s always high. He does a great scene with the opening, “I see dead people” Shannon Elizabeth plays the airhead Buffy Gilmore. She’s also Miss Teen in the beauty pageant (Check out the lyrics to the Beauty pageant song – they really are worth a giggle!). Cheri Oteri is Gail Hailstorm and probably my least favourite character. She is meant to be taking the pee out of Courtney Cox’s character Gail from scream but I just didn’t feel it at all. She wasn’t funny and just didn’t really fit into the film. A definitely bad casting decision I feel! Lochlyn Munro is Greg Phillippe, the 100% football jock. This guy is all butch with a little (shall we say..) size problem in the lower regions. A good but annoying character, thankfully he dies early (Not a real plot spoiler as I feel this film is a tad predictable for anyone who’s seen Scream). Regina Hall plays Brenda Meeks, the very stereo typical black woman from the ghetto. I feel for these characters as they really do give Black woman a bad name. Still she is really funny and very loud. A very much typical Jerry Springer, ‘Talk to the hand’ character and also Ray’s girlfriend. Lastly we have Dave Sheridan who plays Deputy Doofy Gilmore, Buffy’s brother. I found the character really amusing but the best thing I liked about him is the end of the film. Very clever on the behalf of the Wayans Brothers. The film is was made in 2000, is 85 minutes long and contains a lot of bad language, slight nudity and some subjects of a sexual nature, so it really did deserve it’s 18 certification. It really is a Wayans production as Keenen Wayans is the directed and the writing credits go to Marlon and Shawn. Very much kept in the family and a very clever parody micky taker!
• What films does it mimic? Lots and lots. There’s probably a few I’ll miss but I’ll try and include as many that I’ve noticed; Scream, I know what you did last summer, Sixth Sense, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Exorcist, Matrix, Blair Witch Project and Friday 13th. The film mainly follows the plot of Scream and its characters though, but just throws in the other films for good measure.
• Where can I buy it and for how much? I got my copy a while back and it was about £10 I think. I’ve had a look around online and found the following prices though; DVDplus (http://www.shopcreator.com/mall/dvdplus) for £7.95 including postage and packing. Front row DVD (http://www.frontrowdvd.com) for £9.99 including postage and packing. Play.com (http://www.play.com) for £9.99 including postage and packing. I’ve also seen the film for sale in high street stores like; HMV, Woolworth’s, Andy’s Records, Blockbusters and WHSmith’s. The price does vary although it quite often around the £12.99 region.
• Are there any DVD extras? Yes a lot to keep you amused and really good ones. I was very happy with the quality and quantity. • Behind The Scenes Featurette – Meet the cast; see some filming and also a few interviews. It’s really quite funny! • Theatrical Trailer – The trailer for the film. • 7 Deleted Scenes – These I really enjoyed, especially the ‘Ray calls a play’. But the best one that is on here and should have been kept in the film is ‘Shorty watched girl on surveillance camera’. It’s really good! • Interactive Menu – Nothing special to write home about. • Scene Access – Pretty standard for most DVDs. • DVD rom features – These are only available for people watching the film on a pc. There’s quite a few extras here on this bit and I’ll be honest and say I haven’t accessed them so I can’t really comment (Once I have, I’ll update this op).
• My final Conclusion on Scary Movie It’s quite amusing really that the original film ‘Scream’ was going to have the title ‘Scary Movie’ but they changed their mind. The fact that this parody took the title up is very clever! The acting’s not meant to be earth moving and it’s not. They mimic the characters from Scream in an amusing way. I enjoyed watching all the characters apart from Gail as I felt she was totally cast wrong. She wasn’t funny and came across as to stand offish rather than funny. The storyline runs along the same lines as ‘Scream’ with ‘I still know what you did last summer’ thrown in for good measure. As I’ve listed above, you may recognise many other films mentioned or mimicked throughout the 85 minutes. Each time I watch it I can add another one. It makes me laugh and that basically what the film is about. I did find there was a lot of bad language but I expected that. It didn’t bother me but some people may find the ‘F’ word a bit offensive after about 50 times. If you don’t like unnecessary bad language then don’t watch this film. There’s lots of it. Over all I enjoyed this film, it cheers me up and I would watch it again. The DVD extras are really good and it was worth the £10 I paid for it. IF you like teen movies and like horror spoofs then this is for you. IF you are looking for a serious horror film try something else as this isn’t your thing. I give this DVD overall 8 out of 10. Thanks for reading, Mel xx

Review of Scary Movie (DVD)
Advantages: This is hilarious - if you're of the juvenile persuasion. Disadvantages: This is terribly offensive, disgusting, and occasionally delves into sacrilege.
