This film is a comedy horror which makes fun of the teen slasher genre by spoofing films such as Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. It also makes references to such films as The Matrix and The Blair Witch Project. In fact its name was actually the working title for Scream.
The local school is in shock after a man in a Ghostface outfit kills one of the students in a scream style cameo. The Drew Barrymore character in this scene is played by Carmen Electra. She is not, however, killed by the cloaked killer but is knocked over by her father who is on the receiving end of some light relief from his wife.
The reporter, Gail Hailstorm (another Scream mickey take) seduces police officer Doofy (I don’t think I need say anything more about who this character is supposed to be) in order to get the inside information, while other school kids start to fall victim to the killer. I would not say that the film has a plot really because it is mainly a mixture of several movies already mentioned. It is pretty funny even so and my favourite scene has to be where a group of lads smoking an illegal substance are joined by the cloaked killer. The phone rings and the scene that follows is a spoof of the Budweiser Wassup ads in which all of the people are killed except one.
The film has caused controversy because of its gross out scenes, which include a man being stabbed in the head by a penis, and a girl being shot up to the ceiling by the force of her boyfriend's ejaculation. They are not, however, as funny nor as cleverly done as gross out scenes from other films such as American Pie and There’s Something About Mary.
The film is very funny in places, but at times it's not that funny. Unlike the films it makes fun of, there is no real drama or suspense, but then that's not really the point. So I would advise you to forget about the plot, and try to count the number of films that it is making fun of instead. This should keep you entertained between the many hilarious moments.

Advantages: Hilarious gags and sketches - mickey takes of films like scream and a great cast Disadvantages: Sick-minded humour for some not amazingly long

Review of Scary Movie (DVD)
Advantages: This is hilarious - if you're of the juvenile persuasion. Disadvantages: This is terribly offensive, disgusting, and occasionally delves into sacrilege.
