Having read an excellent review about this film, I decide that I would go and see it. I have the sort of weird humour needed to watch films like these. I didn’t particularly enjoy the first one, but thought the second one might be better, after the review. It was SLIGHTLY.
Scary Movie two opens with a priest being called in to ‘unposess’ a young lass! Typically this is supposed to be a spoof of the film ‘the exorcist’. They end up throwing up buckets of green pea soup over each other! The tongues are swishing about, and the scenes are not they entertaining with the young lass doing a piddle the size a horse would do – is that funny? I think not!
A year later and the survivor’s form the first film are summoned to go to the house where the ‘possession’ has taken place and spend the weekend. As a school project, their professor, Professor Oldman (Tim Curry), and his paralysed assistant, Dwight (David Cross), have decided to do a research study at Hell House, the house where the bad exorcism took place, and disguise it as a sleep disorder study.
At the house they meet Hanson (Chris Elliot), who is the house’s caretaker. And a ‘parrot’ with a filthy mouth.
As the film gets going it turns its satirical eye on other films such as: Hannibal-where Shorty Meeks (Marlon Wayans) has the top of his head removed in that infamous scene from the Hannibal film. While Charlie’s angels is not spared either when the three main female characters Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris); Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall); and Theo (Kathleen Robertson) take on the disfigured Hanson (Chris Elliot). (Other films taken off include the house on haunted hill, what lies beneath and Mission Impossible).
One of the funniest sentences comes from the ‘parrot’ (who is dressed up in tuxedo). When he adds appropriately “You are the weakest link – goodbye”. Anne Robertson would be proud!
This second film is actually better than the first one of the series (apparently they promised not to make a sequel to scary movie-God forbid a sequel to Scary Movie 2?) This eventually does have a ‘mild’ storyline, which can be followed. Some of the scenes are funny though very crude and rude. Other scenes are not funny or scary – just a waste of time.
If you enjoyed Scary movie one or films of this nature then you’d like this, but otherwise best avoided.
And by the way one last thing if a caretaker called Hanson offers you anything he’s cooked, it’d be best to refuse it-for your health sake!
Scary Movie 2 is a film that is crude rude and messy. It is a certificate 18 and runs for around 80 minutes. Genre Comedy/Horror
Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans. Written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans. Produced by Eric L Gold.
