Myself and my boyfriend found ourselves wandering around Liverpool yesterday when we decided to go to the pics to see a new flick. We don’t go to the cinema very often because we never seem to enjoy the same kind of movies. Ironically, it was over a conversation about Dirty Harry movies that we first met, however that must be the only film that we manage to agree on! He likes horror movies, the scarier the better, I however being a typical girl took a whole two months to get over ‘The Exorcist’ experience when he eventually convinced me to watch it! Anyhow, it was raining and we found found refuge in the Odean cinema on London Rd. The only films that looked any good where Moulin Rouge and A Knights tail which would mean a one hour wait until the next viewing.
We decided to watch Scary movie 2! Having not seen Scary movie 1 I was a bit dubious, would we be able to pick up the plot? Would there be references to the first movie? Would it be really scary?! John however, convinced me that it’s a spoof of films like scream and Halloween. This puzzled me because I was lead to believe that Scream was actually a spoof of Halloween and movies of that era. Surely that would make the scary movies a spoof of a spoof!!!!Anyway, I just decided to go in and watch the damn thing!
The first scene opened to my horror in a scene from The Exorcist!!!! However, it was the most entertaining sequence of movie scenes that I have ever seen. Having watched the Exorcist I was able to understand all of the jokes. For instance the scene in the real Exorcist when he emerges from a car , and is lit by a single street lamp outside the dark house where the possessed girl lives. Scary movie 2 shows the exorcist leave the car in the same manner, then we hear the cab driver shouting him to pay his fare as he walks off! The best scene has got to be the replica of the unforgettable green vomit from The Exorcist! I won’t say too much to spoil all the good bits but believe me it will have you in hysterics.
The general plot is based around a group of students who a year after their last spooky experience (Scary movie 1) go to college and try and get over the scary things of last Halloween. The professor of the college has decided to conduct a school project which will research in to a house which was once occupied by a possessed girl. Of course all of the students find themselves in this project at the haunted house and all kinds of funny encounters follow.
I think that it helps if you have a good knowledge of horror movies. There are references and take off’s of quite a few of them. Also skits on Titanic and , we couldn’t believe our luck…Dirty Harry!!!
I was pleasantly surprised because I wasn’t expecting much from this movie. We both found it entertaining and I was chuckling most of the way through. It ran for about an hour and a half and I didn’t get bored! Some of the jokes where quite crude and there where some quite disgusting scenes (eg: A ghost boffing a girl all over her room!) so if you are easily offended I suggest you go and watch another movie!!!! It is actually a cert 18.
It was a good movie because it never slowed down and it was easy to follow and funny. I don’t think that you have to see Scary movie 1 to get it, I didn’t see SM1 anyway.
So, now at last me and John have found another movie that we both like!
