Let me start off by saying that I liked the first film. I thought it was pretty funny and did a good job of spoofing horror films. Hell I even have it on dvd and saw it twice while in New York last year. That's why I remember the tag line ending with the lines "NO SEQUEL". Well with over $175 million at the box office the cash cow was still full of milk it would seem so within the space of just over a year we have the sequel and that quick turnaround shows in every minute up there on the big screen.
Scary Movie 2 is frankly the worst film I've seen this year at the movies. It's not the worst film of the year, that honour still belongs to the tragic 'Dude, Wheres My Car?'.
It's one year later and Cindy (Anna Faris) is at college with Shorty (Marlon Wayans). There's a new bunch of kids and somehow Ray (Shawn Wayans) and Brenda (Regina Hall) have been re-incarnated as themselves. Anyway a professor (Tim Curry) and his wheelchair bound partner select the kids to stay in a haunted house so they can finally unlock the mysteries behind the paranormal. Cue a long line of spoofs and attempts at comedy.
It's very difficult to know where to start at what's wrong with this film. For starters you have returning cast members that dies in the first one. Now I know this isn't meant to taken seriously but there was a line in the trailer that covered this. But some how this has disappeared from the final cut.
But the worst thing is that this simply isn't funny. The only laughs come from a great cameo at the beginning from James Woods who himself was a last minute replacement for Marlon Brando. Kudos to you Mr Woods, you survice with you career intact and I'm sure you were paid a rather decent amount of cash. If you look at the credit then you'll see that seven writers worked on this and all they could come up with is offensive jokes about the disabled and down syndrome. They also re-hash several moments from the first film.
There is another advert spoof and this time it's the Nike basketball thing. Now these adverts are still not installed on a UK viewers mind so they'll likely pass over the heads but even then it's not funny and I swear I could see tumbleweeds drifting along the front of the theatre.
It makes no sense, there is no plot and what you'll see is a bunch of sketches that are thrown together to make 82 minutes of life-wasting rubbish. There are scenes in the trailer that don't make the final cut such as a Hollow Man/Weed Smoke gag which just makes me think they shot a load of stuff and picked the best parts. There are also huge continuity errors, annoying characters and whenever something looks like being funny it just goes on and on and on and......
Seriously do not waste your time on this. It deserves to die a long cold box office death, go see Moulin Rouge, hell go see anything else but don't waste your money on this. Thankfully I had a Two For One voucher for UCI which softened the blow. These can be found at filmfactory.co.uk if you really must go.
To finish up, if you're stuck in a relationship you want out of then simply take your partner to this. Afterwards they'll probabably not speak to you again.
