i'll start by saying that this is one of the only horrow films that i have seen in a long time that actually freaked me out. generally i have a tough stomach but i must admit in parts of this film i did feel a little sick. maybe it was because i watched it in a pitch black room, in the middle of the night by myself..

The plot is original, two men awake in a room both chained to opposite sides of the room, with a dead man (with blood pouring out of his head) in the middle of the room. i wont say too much as i dont want to spoil the plot although the film goes through many flash backs and builds up a complex and intense plot about the killers background of all challenges he has set for previous people. these include having to try and get through 10 metres of razor wire and having to cut open a sedated friends stomach.

the killer is a man who enjoys testing peoples will to live by setting various challenges - if they are too weak to complete, they die. The two men in the room are given a saw, a bullet and a cigarette and must kill each other or find a way to escape (while still chained to opposite sides of the room) before the time runs out and they are left to rot in a sealed room.

The film was made in a week (got this from the special features on the dvd!) and on a very low budget. on some occasions this does show through with the lack of special effects and sometimes poor acting. however on the whole i loved this film and was nice to see something that got my heart racing for once!

I ABSOLUTELY RECCOMEND THIS TO EVERYONE WHO LIKES HORROR FILMS. i even loved it so much i've gotten loads of my friends to watch it - some with alot of reluctance. although this film is generally about blood and gore, after watching it you cant help but think about the killer and the storyline in more depth which is another reason i enjoyed the film.

the sequal to this film (saw 2) i feel is not as good as the original, although done on a higher budget with more deaths and blood the storyline does not add anything from the original. and i much prefer watching something with a new idea or theme. because of this i found the sequal quite predictable, however if you enjoyed saw. i would also reccomend saw 2.

The special features on the DVD are average, there is a small documentary about the making of the film and a few interviews with cast members, in addition to this there is a music video from one of the songs in the film.

i hope you found this useful - and go and watch or buy this film (only £5 on amazon! - go on!) thanks 4 reading!
